Description A tulip

Taken with a Canon 350d (kit 18-55mm) and + 3 hoya close up filter.

I took the shot outside in natural daylight, using a reflector to get even lighting all round.

Raw conversion done in lightroom with a little cloning in photoshop

Enjoy

Thanks mate.
Although shots like this really make me want a dedicated macro lens and a ring flash

Well done! When I took some of these, they came out rather dull because... lol!

lol, it's surprising how much the reflector helps, especially in my situation. With your new ring flash you shouldn't have too much trouble

No, I think that makes a lot of difference, esp. if I use it in modelling modes. The only thing is that it makes the whole kit terribly heavy for me to carry about, let alone to point and shoot; a tripod as well is even heavier, and I don't have that sort of stamina, so I rely very heavily on my husband's help with this sort of thing..

I can see that causing problems, it's good of your husband to help you. I guess it also helps with you both sharing the passion too

Very true, it does help, and he is very keen for me to get some satisfaction out of it. Sometimes, though, I just have to let him go off and do his own photography when I'm too weak to accompany him or take part. Sad, but true.
