Description This is a render that just shows the features on and around the bridge tower. No textures unfortunately; not even basic ones. As this model has increased in complexity, so too has the difficulty of actually working on it. Even doing this render was a pain, but its not so much the rendering as it is actually setting up the scene for rendering. Even as I post this render, I'm seeing a lot of clipping/placement issues with some assets, but I simply cant fix them right now. Im going to upgrade my version of Max (currently 2010) and see if that ends up helping at all. I really want to see some beauty shots on this thing!

Went a bit crazy with the Greeble plugin, there.

There's hardly any Greeble though. That's kind of insulting actually.

I didn't mean to insult. My sincerest apologies. :S

So you mean to tell me that you modelled all the little details by hand? o_o The turbolasers or the shield generators, I can imagine, but the rest?

Surely you've used some sort of plugin to generate at least part of all this. I seem to recall stumbling upon one such paid plugin that generates details in a way the free Greeble plugin can't.

I think almost every person with at least a basic understanding of 3d modeling had a reaction similar to yours. Most people hoped I had just used a plugin to make all this stuff, or just recommended it to me, but thats not the case.
Those recommendations are what gave me the idea of templates, so as a result 95% of the model is hand made. I made all the ship body, components and templates in Inventor, and spent about 2-3 hours on each template by itself; at the end I had about 5. Then I started copy-pasting the templates where possible, and made unique assets every where else. In some places, like the bridge, i overlayed some greeble on top of elements that were already there. I also used it to blend areas between templates. The entire ship itself is composed of 2,226 seperate objects.
Attached is a picture that highlights all the areas in this shot that have elements that use the greeble plugin; the bridge area by far has the densest concentration of these elements.

Kind of a late reply, sorry. ^^'

Then I take it all back. I'm not what you could call a patient modeller and I always strive to find ways to quickly add detail to a ship's surface (as you can see with my own take on the regular Star Destroyer here and some of my original sci-fi stuff as well) and I tend to forget that other modellers have different ways of doing their own stuff.

Hats off to you, man.

Even so I think your star destroyer is fucking great. Bridge proportions seem a bit wonky but otherwise its a 9/10 model

Oh? I used the schematics from the wiki as a base, though. But I'm glad you like it.
