Description
The largest extant bird in the world, Struthio camelus. Part of a contract competition for museum illustrations...Oil paint on A3 illustration board (30 cm by 42 cm).

(I live in South Africa) I once raised a pet ostrich for around two weeks and I noticed that even at that age they can just about keep up with a running human. Very cool birds. There is an Ostrich farm in my country which allows tourists to ride ostriches, I don't think this is possible with any other living bird species. Lovely painting by the way

Hehe. Now seriously: I like the painting per se and wish you much luck with the contract. But something is distracting me in comparison to your general Bird Paintings. I'm not sure what it is in specific. Probably something about the thighs and the head or it is just the unusual perspective.

I guess you could call it a contest - several teams of illustrators are competing for a contract with the museum to contribute a wide range of art for the museum's exhibits. I guess they're opening a new wing and need a lot of new stuff.
