My rat Ginger had twelve in her first litter. And she was very young at the time. I doted on her for weeks, the best food and shelter, and pounced on anyone who so much as coughed near her.
They all survived and are the brightest and healthiest rats I've ever owned. Lady Luck must have been smiling on them.
It's just a shame that sometimes you can do everything right, and something will still go wrong.

Smaller litters would usually be healthier, but I guess it could've been something genetic or a development problem. It's always sad to loose them so young, though.
Here, maybe this'll help cheer you up.
I went away for a weekend and left the litter with my mum, and when I came back they'd vanished. I was all "Mum how can you loose 13 rats!"
I was really panicky 'cause our two dogs are rat-catchers and we live in the countryside so if a wild rat was in the house it would kill them., not to mention electric cables and other dangerous stuff.
It turned out that while I'd been gone Ginger had:
broken out of a glass tank (I still don't quite know how)
moved all 12 babies
brought all her wool bedding
taken all the food drom her cage
stolen all the food from a feed bag she'd broken into
chewed up two years worth of notes from my Law coursework for extra bedding
and gone to live under the radiator on the other side of the room.
Luckily the babies were still easy to catch, and they all got back safely, but Ginger was very annoyed with me for spoiling all her hard work.

Aww... and poor little one. Unfortunately that is common with rodent litters (probably part of the reason they have so many.) I had mice when I was a kid and we would always lose at least one when they had babies.

Yeah ... another thing that makes babies sick is megacolon , I think my girl may have had that .

They can die of megacolon in this young age?
I know that they die around 4 weeks, when they start to drink less milk and in very rare situtations they can get it when they become old.

Actually , it is just as common for them to die from it at 1-7 days as it is 3-4 weeks. It is becoming more common unfortunately as of late.

I guess some people find this kind of thing "Cute".. I find it to be pretty gross but I have to say interesting to look at non the less.
Weird how the whiskers are the first to pop out.
