The newly discovered cave system was already the talk of the scientific community, especially for the geologists and speleologists. A vast labyrinth that had remained hidden for centuries, a buried world of unknown proportions. The first few peeks into its upper layers already blessed the explorers with never-before-seen flora and fauna, but these were mere appetizers to what lurked below. It was when they delved into its deepest reaches that they found her. Basking in the torrent of an ancient waterfall, the explorers were stunned by such a creature. A human-sized beast was already unheard of in such bizarre ecosystems, but one of such angelic appearance was truly a sight to behold. It didn't take long for pictures of her to flood the newspapers and screens, turning her into a sensation in the eyes of both science and the public. Some cried hoax, others a miracle, but neither of these could be confirmed until further study. After weeks of discussion and planning, the explorers at last returned to her world in order to gain some answers. They found her exactly where they last saw her, and it was here that first contact was made. Or at least attempted. They performed all sorts of tests and demonstrations in order to understand her, but she did nothing. They tried communication through sound, smell, lights and anything they could think of, but she didn't even flinch. She just clung to the wall and let the falling water pour over her, never showing a hint of care or interest. After days of attempts, the world gave up. After all this time, all they saw her do was stretch her fins and reaffirm her grip on the slippery surface. Everyone's attention soon turned to the other wonders of the caverns, and she faded into the background. From time to time, people visit her and seek to crack this mystery, but none have succeeded.

Perhaps she is just a simple fish, and nothing more. Or perhaps our worlds are truly separate, in a way that we can never understand each other. That or she just doesn't care.

I wanted to try something a bit different with the coloring on this one, instead of going the usual paleness. It didn't work.
