Story
Word Count: 407

It wasn’t long after Angie had left the ring with Plague before she was prepping Africa for her turn. Brushing stray loose hairs back into place, cleaning up her jowls so she wasn’t excessively drooling or gross by the time she made it before the judge. Thankfully with short coated dogs, there wasn’t too much prep work to be done beforehand.

Shortly thereafter, the thin lilac show lead was slipped over Africa’s head and pulled taught behind her thick jaw, aiding in pulling the bit of loose skin on her neck up. Angie giving her one last quick once over, fixing a large v-shaped ear that had fallen out of place.

With their group called next, Angie and Africa made their entrance to the makeshift ring beside the pink lake. Africa’s head and nub of a docked tail both held high as she was proudly shown off.

Unlike Plague, Africa had not been produced by Angie’s program, but that didn’t make a difference in her impressiveness in the conformation venues. She was a gorgeous dog, hand picked and imported from South Africa by Angie. And, like Plague, if Africa continued to do well then she’d make a wonderful addition to any program and especially Angie’s.

Angie had never been a fan of the dark brindle dogs, but Africa was hard not to love. Her dark face and chest, the brindle that shaded her coat all over and made her musculature pop in the sunlight, her big blocky head and round chest. Clean without sacrificing breed type, functional and fit for the purpose her breed had been created for. She had her faults, of course, but she was still a hefty competitor against the others of her breed.

The large mastiff bitch trotted the diagonal happily, her muzzle parting to allow her light pink tongue to slip out ever so slightly in a light pant. She was used to the heat, having been born and brought up in South Africa. However it was a bit more humid here next to Australia’s Lake Hillier.

Africa stood still as she was poked, prodded, and examined by the judge. Having her teeth and correct scissor bite examined, her tail carriage, her entire presence being put under a microscope. She was unphased by this all, doing as Angie asked with little complaint and question as she was shown off. And with any luck, the day would end with some ribbons in hand.
