Very well done!  I love Ouzels!!!!!  I only ever get to see the American Dipper, but SUCH a cool family of birds.  I see the rest of these on a regular basis.

Tosi kivat kuvat! Tosin pöllöllä näyttää olevan jotenkin tavallistakin hupsumpi ilme, ehkä silmät hitusen korkealla tai katseen suuntaa vain jotenkin hassu. : D (Eivätkö nämä menneet Luonto-Liiton Talviseurannan kuvitukseksi? The Finnish Nature League siinä tapauksessa.)

Kiitos! Kieltämättä pöllö on näin jälkikäteen katsoen jotenkin hölmönnäköinen. Olisivatko silmät liian lähellä toisiaan ja/tai korkealla. No, tehty mikä tehty.

Korjaanpa oikean englanninkielisen nimenkin paikoilleen.

What does the goldeneye eat?

Aquatic invertebrates, apparently. Insect larvae, worms, bivalves, and decapods. I assume there's a reasonable supply of those in winter too, if the waters don't freeze over. The idea here was to show one of the species that has started overwintering more frequently as the climate has warmed.

So when anserids fly south for the winter, it's more a case of empty stomach than constant shivering?

Yeah, I think geese are easily large and well insulated enough to handle the cold. It's just that they need fresh green plants to graze on. Mallards commonly overwinter in places where people feed them and don't seem to be cold. In the pond closest to us, there's also a tiny male teal spending it's third winter in a row with the mallards.
