Description
The Vesta class starship USS Aventine accompanied by the Hornet class USS Viking and the Nova class USS Cochrane.
The USS Aventine (NCC-82602) is a Vesta-class Federation starship in Starfleet service in the late 24th century. Aventine was originally under the command of Captain Dexar.
The Aventine saw her first combat action against the Borg during the invasion of Acamar III. During the battle, the commanding officer, the executive officer and 250 crew were killed, leaving Ezri Dax in command of the ship. One week after the battle, Starfleet officially promoted Dax to captain and gave her command of the Aventine.
With 672 meters length and a crew of 750, the ship is one of the largest Multi-Mission Explorer operated by Starfleet during the last two decades in the 24th century.
The Vesta-class starship USS Aventine served as a test-bed for a number of new Starfleet technologies, including quantum slipstream drive. Other experimental systems aboard the Aventine included a multidimensional wave-function analysis module, and a sympathetic fermion transceiver. Some of the systems being tested were deemed top secret.
With the exception of the class' namesake, Vesta-class ships were each named for one of the seven hills of Rome, located east of the river Tiber, and which form the geographical heart of Rome, within the walls of the ancient city. The USS Vesta itself is named after the virgin goddess of the earth, home, and family in Roman religion.
