Also the term you are looking for is Germanic and they are part of the Indo-European languages. Now the latter group is far more interesting.

I didn't want to imply you didn't know. I just find the etymological similarities between Indo-European languages far more fascinating than the ones between Germanic languages. But that might be just a remnant of my time at uni having to deal with that.
