ITS DONE ITS DONE ITS DONE! OH MY GOD I FINALLY FINISHED IT YAAAAAAAAY!
Oh I am so full of joy. I started this back in November of 2004, and I just sort of put it down and didn't touch it for a very very long while. All of a sudden I felt my arty urges kick me in the pants and I got working again.. and now its done! YAY n_n!
So this was done almost entirely in Open Canvas... photoshop helped a tad (for a mite of shading and the border... possibly the lineart also, but I don't think so). It took flipping forever but I'm happy with how it turned out, particularly the mushroom.
The mushroom is based on one of the monsters in American McGees Alice, it looks like a regular mushroom until you get near it and it sucks you in and kills you. I wanted to use a -slightly- more traditional Alice, though.. with the blonde hair and the young-girl look... but I couldn't resist giving her the stockings. I just love stripes so very much.

If you don't have enough time you can actually use old images, its more about showcasing people's interpretations of alice than it is about creating new work purely for the competition.
But if it gives you an excuse to get back into drawing alice, then go right ahead!

Alice did originally have stripy stockings... its was Disney that gave her white tights, not the original illustrator.
I like how Alice looks kind of innocence and childlike while the mushroom looks at her in an extremely evil manner. Like it a lot.

I love your style of having the eyes quite wide-set XD It makes the character look so much more.. involved with the viewer.. very captivating, I think!
A-ha! I see what the other commenters mean... the legs are a bit long; if the bends of the knees were dramatized just a tad more it might've helped, but I didn't notice that at first glance.
I really like this, her hands are amazingly done, very dainty and elegant. So... so Alice!! Very nice job! Congrats!

Alice's eyes are a little widely-set, and it looks more like she's floating in front of the mushroom rather than sitting on it. I really like the color palette, though, and the style is terrific

Most of it would be a matter of her shadow -- It needs to pull away from her body more where it isn't contacting the mushroom; for example, it would appear to be farther from her knees than her hips. You could also increase the contrast on her knees, so these are really punched toward the audience.

Very nice illustration. Alice's face looks great, especially the eyes. Also, great stuff with the hair and dress. The only thing I could crit about this is that her feet look awkward. It's either their positioning or the sense of depth, I can't quite put my finger on it. Otherwise, great piece.

Huh, her feet? Really? I guess I hadn't noticed too much. Originally it was supposed to have a lot of similar highlighting, but that just sort of took a backseat, so I suppose they look a bit out of place. Thank you very much for the constructive criticism
