Description Goddammit, Skye, How many times have I told you, you're not allowed to die before I do...

You know that feeling, when you draw a picture, and for once, everything comes out exactly the way you want it to? That's how I feel about this.

...With things like these, for the most part I let the picture speak for itself, and don't say a lot. The one thing I'll mention is that I really love how Mimi's mane came out. I'm thinking of leaving it unbraided more often. Opinions?

I'd really love comments on this one, guys. Honestly. <3

I've kept this one up for a long time simply because I love it. You've nailed the emotional impact behind this picture, even without knowing the characters, and the anatomy was well executed. Won't write much simply because I know this picture speaks for itself in that respect. Wonderful job!

And I think you should leave her hair in braids. That way, when you get to emotional moments like this, her unbraided hair makes a larger impact.

Thank you, Sprite. I'm really glad you got a chance to comment on this one, because it means a lot to me. And I always appreciate it when someone keeps one of my pictures in their inbox for a long time so that they can comment on it when they have time. ^^

I'm so glad that you love it, and that I've captured the emotion in a believable way, and everything. Thank you again for your comment~

I'm thinking I'll do a sort of "half-unbraided, half-braided" look for it, and then take it all the way down for things like this. ^^

Sounds good. ^^ I'm glad you have an idea of how you want your stories to be set up.

And no problem. I hope you can pull off some more serious pictures like this one in the future.

This is by far one of the most beautiful drawings I've seen in a while, it holds such a lot of emotion! Skye and Mimi have such a wonderful relationship. I don't know why, but I especially love the way he holds her head.

I've totally stumbled upon this picture by accident, but I'm sure glad I did.

I love everything about it, the poses, the body language, the style and that little bit of text. It's a really powerful.

Thank you so much for everything. The comment, the favorite, AND the watch. 8D I always love it when people stumble upon me by accident but like my art enough to watch me/comment. <333

I don't think I can pick and choose which hairstyle looks better on Mimi. They each have their own design advantages. Perhaps, as a default style, you could do it with most of her hair down but only a couple locks of hair braided. That's what I would do!

Uh anyways, I must say that this is definitely one of the most emotional pieces you've ever done. It hits right where it should: you've got the dramatic posing and crosshatched style that gets the emotion across very well. It's sort of chaotic yet... calm. Very sad! I just want to swoop in there and give Zekey a big old hug. Although, I'm sure Mimi will do just that...

With regards to your comment to ~effigy-power , about the background, I agree with you all the way: that thing is TOUGH. I took this picture and spat some color on it (ssssh), but stalled when it came to coloring the background. I dunno where the shadows would go or anything, how dark it would be, etc. Guh!

Overall, this is a darned beautiful picture you've got here, out of all of the Zeke and Mimi pieces it's definitely my favorite. Great job, Oki! Now I'm going to go hug a teddy bear or something... D:

Good advice on Mimi's hair, Ribbs. Thanks a bunch! Also, sorry for the wait on the reply to the comment. I've been really busy since I got back to Texas.

But hey as always, thank you so much for taking the time to comment on this one. It's a really special piece to me; I'm very partial to it. ^^

Yeah, I thought about slapping some color on in PS myself, but looking at it, realized I wouldn't know where to start when it came to that background. I thought maybe a dark purple would offset Mimi's gold nicely, but it would still be hard to get a handle on where to color, especially the space between Mimi's legs and the ground.

Thank you again, Ribbons. And thank you for the favorite, as well. I know you only favorite things you really like, so it's a great honor~

........Oh God.
I actually panicked, the first few moments I saw this. xD I think it was my inner Hanna. "GOD FUCKING DAMMIT, SKYE! Hold on! Die, and....I die with you. And there's so many things I want to do, Zeke...."
......... Excuse my melodrama. >3<

It was a good choice, turning Zeke's head away from the veiwer. Since Mimi's pain is supposed to be the focus, it really makes her expression the thing we can focus on. :3
And you should leave her hair out more ofen, it looks nice. <3

EsperEzekiel In reply to TIFnottiffany [2010-01-26 22:37:34 +0000 UTC]

D: No panicking allowed! I would never have the heart to kill Zeke. Are you kidding? Killing Zeke would be like...like...like killing a litter of puppies. PUPPIES.
Do you recognize those two slashes on his side? I've been wondering if you would make the connection...

Thanks so much for your lovely comment, Tif. <333 And, I think I am going to let Mimi's hair down more often.

Connections, connections....there's so many things I could connect it to goddamn-- Oh, was it from the poke!RP where they panicked and brought a bleeding Zeke to Hanna instead of to an actual hospital? 8D
.....Or not?

And you're welcome~ <33

EsperEzekiel In reply to TIFnottiffany [2010-01-26 22:47:52 +0000 UTC]

Yep, that's the one. I'm not sure if you ever put it together, but it was Zev's knives that gave him those slashes. I'd worked the idea into EfT before I ever used it in the pokeRP. xD

I have blackmail for the organization of Tartarus, except I don't actually know what the material is. xD And I can only find out when the story's published....
Plus, they'd fry my ass before I was even halfway done making my threat. D:

EsperEzekiel In reply to TIFnottiffany [2010-01-27 01:53:41 +0000 UTC]

xD This is true, I doubt you'd stand a chance against them. Although, if you had something really juicy...>D
That is a hint to note me about what this juicy blackmail is.

TIFnottiffany In reply to EsperEzekiel [2010-01-27 01:58:41 +0000 UTC]

I....have no worthwhile blackmail material at hand. >3< But I know it's there, because seriously-- you don't torture your employees for 'finding out' a minor offense.
But that's all I have to go on. So I'll just stay where I am, on my couch, drawing Doctor Olsen....

I'm really considering leaving her hair down more often. I love her braids and all, but they're really hard to draw, and I don't get a lot of characters with the kind of silky, flowing hair she has...that's really fun to draw. ^^
Guh thank you again Tabby. <33333

I'll comment once I start crying and rocking forth and back, muttering "It's ok, it's all ok"...

No seriously, good job at creating the mood. The fact that we don't see the face means we have to make our own expression, and since everyone knows sorrow as something slightly different, it has a much stronger effect that way.
And yes, the hair in the mane looks very flowy and dynamic.

Only critique: I feel like the outlines could be stronger, to lift the characters a bit off the dark background. It's a bit hard to see where some of the outlines are in the middle and the 10'o'clock area of the picture.

effigy-power In reply to effigy-power [2010-01-26 16:58:42 +0000 UTC]

Oh, also, just as an addition. It might be complicated for the casual observer to see who talks to who here... so either some repositioning of the script or a hint of a speech-bubble might help.

EsperEzekiel In reply to effigy-power [2010-01-26 17:55:58 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much. If there's one thing that I, as an artist, (especially a character artist,) strive for, and treasure, it's when someone says that one of my drawings had enough emotion put into it to garner an emotional response from them.
I hope that I didn't really put you in a fetal position, though. Oh no!

I'm glad that Zeke's face being turned away from the viewer worked. I had some trouble deciding where his face should be turned, but in the end, I really wanted Mimi's expression to be the one that caught the viewer's eye. Thinking about it, although it wasn't my original intention, you're comment about grief looking different to each and every person rings true, and does somehow make the picture more powerful. <3

I had trouble with the background, actually. xD I really wanted a dark feel to it, because I imagine this scene taking place at night, or in a dark area. But Mimi's dark fur does complicate that a little. I considered leaving a white outline like I sometimes do , but it wouldn't have given the same feel to the picture. I'll try darkening their outlines a little next time I open my sketchbook. (I'll also think about moving the text a little. Thank you so much for your feedback. You have no idea how much I appreciate it. <333)
