This is an interesting twist on a self portrait. For my Drawing & Painting II class, we were to choose an artist or style and create a self portrait based on our choice, using any media.
I chose to model my self portrait after M.C. Escher's Bond of Union piece. It was such an amazing concept, and I love his work.

I started with blank, white paper, obviously. From there, I made a line drawing of my head/face from a mirror. I then sectioned out which strips of my face would be included in the finished product. I erased leftover pencil marks and shaded the sections of my face represented in this drawing. When I finished that step, I shaded the entire background in with a black charcoal pencil. That proved to be very messy and painstaking, but I think it was for the best in the end.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with this self portrait. It's weird, though, because I like to draw people but hate to draw myself.

Anyway, it would be appreciated if you let me know what you think of this! I hope to update this account - with the tons of deviations I just haven't had time to submit - soon.

Thanks for viewing! ^_^

Well darling... you know how much I love this piece, I think it's one of the best self portraits you've ever done. It not only portrays your physical self, but a lot of your personality as well. VERY nicely done hun.

Very nicely done and that is a really interesting idea. I've never seen anything like it before and I really like it. I noted ~liviticus said that a "torn" look would have been perhaps better, but I really like it as it is with the parts omitted rather than torn apart.

it would have been a cool idea to have "torn" the head apart, but what you did is much more like escher's drawing(i think it's a woman, and done in kind of a reddish pink), so i think you accomplished your goal nicely. great job

That would have been neat... but yes, I did try to stay closer to what Escher portrayed in "The Rind" and "Bond of Union."
Thank you very much!

Concept is awsome! .. But I feel that you should have "torn" the head apart instead of "missout" on some parts. It would have given a more "realistic" effect or so .. Well, even though that's not what you where looking for, I feel it would be more suiting for a "torn appart" face ^^ ..

Still, it's an awsome drawing! .. Keep up the great work!
