lol I put that rather confusingly didn't I XD I mean that all the younger people who draw well nowdays are making the level of skill expected per age rise, so we who are older/aren't as talented have trouble keeping up. OAO

Aw, it's not that bad! Don't say bad things about your own art! You make us untalented peeps feel depressed. XD; If this is a 13-year-old level, then my art was on a 3-year-old level when I was 13.
Btw, I really like these dark vs light themed pics.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Erulisse2 In reply to Amarevia [2010-08-31 21:15:35 +0000 UTC]

don't say bad things about your art either *pings* Anyway, it's mostly a matter of when you start..... people who start after reaching adulthood seem to have slower art growth but a more mature style from start. people who start from their teens start shakier but grow faster until they reach about 19. but some of those 13 year olds have started long ago in their preteens or even elementary and level up insanely fast, they're going to give us older people some wicked competition~ how good they could be by the time they reach 18-19 where art stops growing so fast is just scary note this is based from analyzing various people, eg personal observation.
What I mean about this picture is that it's drawn in a way similar to the way that is used by many 13-year-old artists, and not much more skillfully. T^T

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Amarevia In reply to Erulisse2 [2010-09-11 12:51:47 +0000 UTC]

Lol, okay.
Kids nowadays have much more opportunities than 10 years ago. Like the internet and software. Discovering the internet and websites like DA made me improve drastically. Well, I actually started as a little kid, I did small "comics" at the age of 5. I started taking extra art classes when I was 9 until I turned 13. I was quite successful, but I wasn't satisfied with my own skills and stopped drawing when I was about 13. I only took up drawing as a hobby again in my late teens. Too bad, because I could have improved SO MUCH in those 5 or 6 years.

I see. It's true that there are some ridiculously talented 13-year-olds, but I still think it's not the best idea to keep comparing yourself to them and set these as an example for us, normal mortal human beings.
I mean whenever I compare myself to some super talented DA artists who are the same age as me or only 1-2 years older, I suddenly want to stop drawing again. XD;

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Erulisse2 In reply to Amarevia [2010-09-12 23:00:12 +0000 UTC]

definitely... it's a huge advantage for them XD ....I didn't even know how to use a computer until about the age of 14 XD
it's true that when you start early, it's good.... I actually started "drawing" a looong time ago (like when I was 7 or 8) but I never got any drive to improve until about when I turned 13 or 14 and tried to copy pictures from lord of the rings and such. XD
The worst thing someone can do when they aren't satisfied with their skills is stop drawing.... sadly this happens with a lot of people (like my aunt.) it's not until too late that we find out that only practicing makes us better sadly It's good you started again though, you're really good at it. X3

Ah well, that is true they're like not human...
There are a lot of scary artists out there that make me want to stop drawing... I'm so glad I'm addicted so I can't.... XD I just keep thinking "If I practice twice as much as them I can surpass them someday maybe" while knowing it's hopeless.... SAAAAD. XD;

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Amarevia In reply to Erulisse2 [2010-09-20 12:38:55 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. Lol, I got my first computer when I was 12 or 13. And I drew on the computer with Paint.
Yup. I was good at many things at school, so I convinced myself I didn't need drawing any longer. I read lots of books and played computer games instead. I realized it only years later that I still liked to draw. So, I should be at the level of a 16-17 year old now.
Thanks.

Totally. I know a girl, she's 15 now and started drawing when she was 12 and she's like SUPER AMAZING. Though both of her parents and her older sister are artists.
Haha! You're already good. And you're improving so fast and draw so much. If you keep this up, you can be 20 times better than you are now in a few years.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Erulisse2 In reply to Amarevia [2010-10-04 00:21:35 +0000 UTC]

lol! XD I first found the computer when i was about 13, I started drawing with something called 'Photodeluxe"... so I've never had to cope with paint XDDD
Ah but I'm 17 and you're above my level! ยดโˆ€๏ฝ€;;;; ...I fail at most school subjects, all athletics, and real life in general. You might say I'm a person who's mostly only good for drawing XD

Having older immediate family that are artists gives a great boost to art skillz... it's like having on hand personalized art lessons XD

Ahahaha I'm trying really hard! *pants* I want to get up to an 18-year-old level in a month and a half (when I turn 18), so I'm going to be really stressed for a while XD
You're improving really rapidly especially at people... I admire you!

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Amarevia In reply to Erulisse2 [2010-10-11 19:19:24 +0000 UTC]

Haha, I see. I had this program called "Ulead Photo Express", I used to do my first digital colourings with that, it was better than Paint because its brush tool had an opacity setting.
Nooo, let's say we are at about the same level. (You're gonna pwn me soon, though.) Aw, don't worry, I fail at life too. But at least you know you are really good at something.

Yup, must be pretty awesome. Though also stressful.

You're doing a great job! Keep it up! Wait, you mean your b-day is also in November? ALL of my DA friends were born in either October or November or what? XDD
Really? Thanks. I admire you too.

Mmm but you're way better than me on most things~~ like animals and proportions XD
lolyeah XDDD

yeah O_O the competition.....

aahahaha yes XDDDD Really? that's so strange!
I admire you a lot~!

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Amarevia In reply to Erulisse2 [2010-10-22 19:08:40 +0000 UTC]

Haha, but you're also way better than me on other things, like poses, perspective and clothes.

I know, right? My oldest DA friend was born one day before me in October.
Oh, but I admire you too. You inspire me.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Erulisse2 In reply to Amarevia [2010-10-24 21:25:51 +0000 UTC]

lolol but the only reason I'm any good at those is because of my comics XD;;; I have to draw them all the time, whether I want to or not. XD; and my poses and perspective and clothes still need lots of work... especially the first two gah
You're also a ton better than me at faces and expressions OvO

really? that's funny! ...are they the same age too? XDDD

awwwww~~~ but you inspire me~! ...it's a non-vicious cycle~? XDDDD

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Amarevia In reply to Erulisse2 [2010-10-31 16:46:19 +0000 UTC]

It doesn't matter why, you're still better than me! Today I tried to draw a guy sitting at a table and I gave up after failing to draw his legs for the 30th time... @___@
Lol, maybe I should try drawing comics too? XD; But until I don't get better at poses and angles, I don't even wanna start.
Hoho, it's easier to draw expressions if your character has a slightly more detailed face and smaller eyes. My characters have much smaller eyes, but bigger mouths and noses than yours. I always have trouble trying to draw and emote really huge-eyed characters.

I know, right? No, he's a couple of years older. 8D

Lol! Yup. Yay!

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Erulisse2 In reply to Amarevia [2010-11-08 00:43:07 +0000 UTC]

eh that kind of thing happens to me on artblock @___@ *hates it*

lol maybe~! XD; you could do a oneshot or something, just for practice....

I find it easier to draw them with large eyes.... it's easier to draw them from further away then *shot* my art has wanted to get more detailed faces though lately, and it's unbalanced my skills so much I can't draw.... TAT especially not girls. all I can draw right now is men.... O_o;;;;

oh~ okay. now if he was the same age, that would just be UNCANNY~~ OAO

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Amarevia In reply to Erulisse2 [2010-11-08 08:04:49 +0000 UTC]

Maybe...

Haha, I see. It's easier for me to do smaller eyes, because it's easier to indicate where they are looking at. Characters with really huge eyes can seem to be emotionless and dull, almost doll-like.
Aw, that's bad. I've been trying to practice drawing girls lately, cuz I draw mostly just guys.

Haha, it would be awesome. In elementary school, I did have a classmate who was born on the exact same day and year as me, though.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Erulisse2 In reply to Amarevia [2010-11-29 00:22:00 +0000 UTC]

I hate artblock T_T

lol yes~! *pokes*

really? lol! well, I find recently that different styles of eyes will look more "right" or "wrong" depending on how large they are.... like making wide eyes in more realistic style looks very odd! XD but more anime style eyes look weird small.... strange, huh? XD
I've been trying to learn to draw manry men lately. good luck to the both of us XD ...but you do awesome at girls, from what I've seen

really? XDD

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Amarevia In reply to Erulisse2 [2010-12-03 15:34:43 +0000 UTC]

Who likes it? D:

Hmm, interesting. Maybe I suck at drawing characters with really huge eyes, because my style isn't animu enough?
Cool! It would be strange if you suddenly started drawing ugly big muscular men, though.
My girls sometimes look like boys. You were the one who couldn't decide whether a female character of mine was a girl or a boy.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Erulisse2 In reply to Amarevia [2010-12-05 22:52:32 +0000 UTC]

OUR RIVALS D8<

that would be the reason. XD for a while when my style had gotten less anime, I had a lot of trouble drawing big-eyed characters to look right, and I've never seen an anime with huge but realistically shaped eyes. XD .... lol if I draw big muscular men, they will be Handsome (or scary, pretty!)

lol that was only because of the neck do not put that muscle line on girls' necks, I'm pretty sure we don't have it unless we're really angry XDDD the faces and bodies are fine though XDDD

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Amarevia In reply to Erulisse2 [2010-12-12 12:48:56 +0000 UTC]

Interesting. But drawing big eyes is hard for me no matter what type of eye I draw. I just can't get the proportions right if the character's eyes are too big.
Yay~~ I bet they will be hot.

Real people don't have it, but I actually went and checked and in many of the mangas I've read, the female characters tend to have that line too, it just isn't as dark and thick as it is on males.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Erulisse2 In reply to Amarevia [2010-12-12 21:44:34 +0000 UTC]

lol~! XD I find that big eyes only look right when they're drawn very simply XD it just looks WRONG in shoujos where they draw realistic but huge eyes (like some korean) at least it's not jumbo sized mouths though XDDD <== that bugs me the most. I hate it when they draw huge mouths DX ) but yeah, the only people I can get huge eyes to look good on anymore are children, because their faces are wider XD;
I hope so~

It's okay if it's drawn very lightly, like a darker shade/screentone/bit of crosshatching there, but I wouldn't go with a line. XD;

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Amarevia In reply to Erulisse2 [2010-12-19 20:28:44 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I see. I like the eyes Esther has in Trinity Blood. 8D
Lol, I draw big mouths sometimes. XD;;;
Children are fun to draw as long as they are boys. I'm bad at drawing little girls, hehe.

Okay, I'll keep that in mind. Though drawing that line helps me find where the collarbone should be.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Erulisse2 In reply to Amarevia [2010-12-19 22:16:54 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha, I like all the characters from Trinity Blood's eyes. 8D
It's okay on characters who are SUPPOSED to have them, but it's creepy when they draw them on everyone (except the girls and ukes) and the way you draw them they have more shape. what I hate is when they draw both the mouth and the lower lip/lips very large compared to the face (much too large even for realism).... it BUGS ME~! D8
I figure that little girls are pretty much the same as little boys except with softer features XD ...I fail at drawing children in general though, so I shouldn't be talking XD

lol, I agree that it's useful for that. recently, I usually draw it on the sketch, then leave it out on the lines and colors XD

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Amarevia In reply to Erulisse2 [2010-12-28 19:47:18 +0000 UTC]

I mentioned Esther, cuz she has quite big eyes, but yeah, TB has a neat style.
Oh, I see. I think it's weird when they draw those girly lips on boys in some shoujo manga. And this [link] (<- yaoi warning!) is weird too, lol.

Yeah, that's it, I can't do the softer features, the kids I draw usually look like little boys for some reason, even if I wanted to draw a girl.

I guess I'll do that too.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Erulisse2 In reply to Amarevia [2011-01-02 23:42:49 +0000 UTC]

yes, it does~! pity the artist's other manga's art isn't nearly as good XD;

lol... it's not girly that bugs me... what bugs me is... like the link..... AAAAAAAARRGGG that's EXACTLY what I mean by huge mouths! I HATEEEE THOSEEE!!!!!!!! I just can't stand them. If a mangaka draws mouths like that, I wouldn't read it no matter how good people say the story is. XDDD;

loollll!!! XD if worst comes to worst, just draw smaller mouths and more eyelashes. Instant little girl. XD

OvO

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Amarevia In reply to Erulisse2 [2011-01-09 11:40:16 +0000 UTC]

Really? I won't check them out then.

XDDD Ahaha! I thought you'd "like" it. This manhwa was published in my country and we kept laughing at the strange drawings with some friends of mine. The characters' mouths are especially scary. And the story is messed up too.

Alright!

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Erulisse2 In reply to Amarevia [2011-01-09 20:37:39 +0000 UTC]

no, the one that's art isn't as good is zone00.... not sure about the others if there are more....

lol~! XDDDD th-those mouths.... they look almost like vacuum cleaner XDDD; ....large mouths seems to be a common fatality of korean shoujos recently, but usually they aren't *that* bad..... OAO;;;;

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Amarevia In reply to Erulisse2 [2011-01-15 07:34:36 +0000 UTC]

Ahaha, I agree. XDD

About the drawing: ...cute? Yes... Waaaait! No! There's a dead guy there! Aaaaaah! Horrible evil killing child!
About your thoughts: >.< no way is that a 13 year old level of drawing. Firstly, No thirteen year old draws that well. Secondly those are really dead people.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Erulisse2 In reply to Gallen-HT [2010-08-22 19:30:52 +0000 UTC]

hahaha XD The dead guy isn't her fault. She's just in the middle of them. And... is not really dead.... just covered in black slime or something... eww.
I know of one that does. >_> What do the dead people have to do with the level of drawing? XD

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Gallen-HT In reply to Erulisse2 [2010-08-23 03:43:32 +0000 UTC]

Ok, so some thirteen year olds can draw pretty well. But that doesn't lower the bar, it makes them a better drawer.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Erulisse2 In reply to Gallen-HT [2010-09-06 00:07:42 +0000 UTC]
