A theory about why the young Cecil in "Cassette" and the young Cecil in "[Best Of?]" have completely different personal histories.

Now, which one of these is the Cecil we've been listening to? Or is he yet another different Cecil? Anybody want to place bets on how many there are?

Cecil in "Cassette" and other pre-"[Best Of?]" episodes: Hi, I'm Cecil! The tablets at City Hall say I'll replace Leonard Burton one day. Leonard always opens his radio show with "Greetings from Night Vale." Here's some news: a new pizza place called Big Rico's just opened!

Cecil in "[Best Of?]": Hi, I'm Cecil! For my first report: a bunch of people have decided to build a town here. They only just decided to call it "Night Vale". City Hall hasn't been built yet, and pizza won't be brought to this continent for another hundred years.

Cassette Cecil: I used to be a Boy Scout. My best friend Earl helped me earn the Subversive Radio Host badge!
[Best Of?] Cecil: This is also a century or more before the Scouts are founded, and I've never heard the word "radio".

Cassette Cecil: Wow . . . there's really no way I can be a younger version of you, is there?
[Best Of?] Cecil: Nope! Not unless almost everything about you is a continuity error.

Cassette Cecil: Maybe we're alternate-universe versions of each other? Or from different timelines?
[Best Of?] Cecil: Sure! Either of those sounds plausible.

Cassette Cecil: Gosh. I wonder if we'll ever meet.
[Best Of?] Cecil: Oh, I'm sure we will! One day you'll see me out of the corner of your eye.
