Description watercolour, ink, white gel pen on A3 paper

A commission, the commissioner wanted their granddaughter as a fairy or little girl in a leafy forest.

I did all the lineart in dip pen and ink first before painting, which is very different to my usual technique. I really enjoyed being able to get much finer detail with the lineart, but I also feel like some parts of the picture aren't as well defined as they would be with the usual, heavier lineart. What do you think? I think I need to make my colours less heavy.

I love the picture, with the little girl in the wood and all the little magical creatures around her and watching through the trees. It is such a playful feeling, thinking of the bells. In my opinion the colours are just right. It's a wonderful picture

i love your coloring so much, and waah..you did an incredible job here with all these details.. mh...about the description...i have the same dilemma, i use ink for the lineart before coloring, but recently i like better when i don't use it, when the lineart is made only with pencil i noticed that colors blend together creating a more realistic "line" that separate the pieces of the lineart..(mh, sorry for my english..) anyway, i admit i did not noticed that you added ink, i never saw your lines ad being "heavy"..i think that everything is well balanced! Sorry for the confusing comment..

Thanks for the great comment! Not confusing at all, and I really appreciate the feedback! I'm continuing to experiment with how much ink I use and how much linework I just leave to work itself out, mostly in all the smaller pics I'm putting up on facebook at the moment

Thankyou! It was fun doing all the details and was interesting to try different mediums - it was so much easier to get all the details with pen and ink than it usually is with sepia watercolour at the end of a painting!
