this is such a beautiful shot ... too bad about the yellow signs ... at least for me they draw attention and take away from the natural sense of the scene

The light is beautiful and the deer's expression is perfect!

That's how I feel too with wildlife shots. ie: the scene should be the scene as it was. I don't believe in removing things to create the "perfect shot". However I see no issue with burning and dodging to improve what's there. After all .... a photograph isn't reality ... each camera will record the scene differently even if it's ever so slightly. But that's just my approach.
