Chapter 3 – The Infernal Machine

Erika was telling the promise which she did with Clive, live the truth revealed.
"Clive : Erika, you're going to regret this…
- Dimitri : But Clive, this plan, tell me it's not true.
- Clive : Hahahahaha! And I thought scientists were supposed to be observant! While you focused on your machine, I had a different goal. Though some may call it revenge, I prefer to think of it as justice over single-minded scientists an corrupt politicians.
- Dimitri : What are you saying, Clive?
- Clive : Enough explanation. Let me show you ! »
Clive runs and goes to Flora and catch her arm. Once Clive took hostage Flora, Erika runs after him, with Luke behind her. When Clive throws the flower pot on them, Erika can dodge but not Luke, who fall on the floor.
"Erika : Sorry, Luke ><."
Erika continues to follow him whereas the professor and Luke are far behind her.
"Layton : I can see you didn't arrive to catch up him.
- Erika : Ha… I tried but he took a motorboat and it must a key. And in my opinion, only Clive has the keys.
- Luke : Professor! Look this!
- Layton : What's happ…?"
A tiny port finding on the Thames hides in fact a huge mobile fortress. Everyone run before it crushes all on its way, everyone except Erika. She trembles in front of this machine and she can't move because of the fear. Layton catches her arm.
"Layton : Hurry up, if you don't want to be crushed!"
Erika hears his words and she backs to her senses. She runs, with tears which she wipes at the same time. The fortress crushes at once the Thames Arms, but fortunately, anybody isn't injured.
"Layton : Everyone's here?
- Luke : Yes, Professor!
- Erika : Professor! We must stop my brother!
- Luke : Yes, but how?"
It's at the moment that Don Paolo leads the professor and Luke to the car which found in the underground city, fixed. The professor and Luke enter in the car and Erika arrives, running, to the professor's door.
"Erika : Professor! I come with you!
- Layton : No question, it's too dangerous!
- Erika : Professor, I already followed you in investigations like this one and I never hurt me, so please, I want enormously to save him with you!
- Layton : … Alright. Then hurry up to go in the car.
- Erika : Thank you, Professor."
So Erika goes in the Laytonmobile and all three do acrobatics to arrive to a door. But the professor has to resolve puzzles to save Flora and to stop Clive. Layton, Luke and Erika succeeded to save her and now, they are in front of Clive.
"Clive : So nice of you to join me, Professor.
- Erika : Clive…
- Layton : Whatever it is you have planned, you can't through with it. We know what Bill and Dimitri did. When the world learns of it, they'll be punished. You said you wanted justice, and isn't that justice enough?
- Erika : Clive, please, think about I before doing such a fool thing!
- Clive : That's a nice sentiment. But without large-scale havoc, those fools in government will never change their ways!
- Erika : Listen to yourself, Clive! I don't believe it's you…!
- Clive : People change a lot over time, Erika. As a reporter, I've witnessed countless tragedies firsthand. And it's clear that our lives aren't the only ones that's been destroyed in the name of progress! To those in power, the rest of us "little people" are all just bumps on the road to a brighter tomorrow. The only thing a bully understands is force. So, you see, I have no choice but to level this place and rebuild it from the ground up.
- Erika : What you're saying is unthinkable!
- Clive : This conversation is over.
- Erika : Clive, it's not ov…!"
Layton, Luke, Flora and Erika are on a square which looks like a puzzle, and the professor has no difficulties to resolve it.
"Clive : You never fail to impress. Sadly, I must leave you now, as the main event is about to start. But first…"
Clive runs to the group, succeed to catch Erika's arm and keeps away from them.
"Erika : What are you doing? You hurt me >- Layton : Release her now!
- Clive : Sorry but it's impossible. After all, Erika is an important key man for my plan.
- Erika : What?!"
Clive presses a button that makes them disappear and that takes them to the control room. Will Professor Layton, Luke and Flora succeed to stop Clive in order to save Erika and London?
