I know he's from Africa and all, but I could take this character much more seriously if he wasn't called the "Black Panther".
I would figure "The Panther" would be good enough.

He actually is often referred to (such as by colleagues) as The Panther and such at certain times.
But Black Panther is really more of a title than a name passed on by generations.
