Description Somewhere South of ElblΔ…g, Poland.
This area used to be called "HollΓ€ndisches Preussen" (Dutch Prussia) when it was still German, but after the Polish took over in 1945, they didn't like that name - fair enough - and gave it another name that I can't remember and bears no relation to the old one.
Originally this was marshland, but it was drained and turned into farmland by Dutch people in the 16th Century. Not only it's a very flat landscape, the farms look very Dutch too - and totally unlike the Polish and Prussian ones in the areas around it.

Not HDR or tonemapping or whatever other digital drama. Just a little bit of highlight correction and curves. It's from the time when I wasn't shooting RAW yet.

I tried to find out anything about this place, because i wanted to tell you the name, unfortunately I couldn't find anything... Don't know why am I writing this, but what hell - at least you know that i tried..
BTW - great shot. It's good to see that you're still in shape Eric. Visit Cracow one day, I'm pretty sure that you'll love it.

Heheheh, thanks anyway, Kuba!

I've been to Cracow, and I loved it! Unfortunately, it was way back in the days when I was still shooting on film, and my film archive isn't so well organized.
When I'll return to Poland, I hope to visit it again, and shoot a lot more pictures.

Great work.

YouΒ΄re gonna laugh, but later IΒ΄ll prove to you that it looks like IΒ΄m in the back of my house. Where there are more 3 or 4 storks. But not that mesmerizing sky.

It was our stork summer. After this we went to the Alsace, which is also - like Holland and Poland, famous for stork colonies (but Poland has the most). I'm glad to hear they're in Portugal too!

I'd love to be convinced!

It was a rather candid situation. The stork was interested in my 350D (which was rather new at the time). The swallows (both European and African) don't have a very interesting birdsong, but their behaviour is to compensate for this by forming musical themes on telephone wires. (This could be a passable start for a Beethoven piano sonata.)

So what language did you have to use to talk to the birds to pose for you?

Yes, a sonata... or a movie!

You mean, this mad invention that requires people to shoot 30 photos in a second?
Still, you have just given me an idea...

Damn. 30 images a second, what a nightmare (even if I love the result!)

Thank you.
Yes, I just checked the other pictures from the series and there can't have been much wind, or the storks would have been much less at ease.

I'd like to have a bit of Deutsches Holland somewhere close, where you can have decent beer (in decent sizes), decent people, CΓΌrrywurst mit Pommes, and decent food.
