Description Trying to portray a girl who had lost her memories. The blank faces on the photos didn't look very obvious though... Pretty subtle message. I wanted to try the Aquaproject challenge ([link] ) so decided to use the primary colors suggested in the journal. I didn't have the exact colored paints of course, so tried to get similar colors:

Red: Alizarin Lake (Daler and Rowney)
Yellow: Winsor Yellow (Winsor and Newton)
Blue: Pthalo Blue (Daler and Rowney)
Used some white gouache for highlights.

Overall... I had fun with the limited color palette, something I haven't really tried doing consciously for my illustrations despite people telling me to... haha.

Medium: watercolors and gouache

That's absolutely stunning, the muted pallet really makes it pop.

That's a cute style! I love her hair and the layout you chose! I think the emotional turmoil comes across very clearly in this piece. And I love the colours you chose to use, it looks almost faded, it an atmosphere-setting-kind-of-way.

Heya there and thank you The style was influenced by a japanese artist who does very gothic lolita pictures... and I was trying to explore that too. It feels much easier to express oneself using a style that does not resemble so close to reality!

This came out great. How did working with the limited palette work in comparison to how you normally paint?

Hey thanks! As for the question... haha, I'm the type person who
squeeze whatever tubes of paints I have onto the palette, so normally, I would paint with whatever is available on my palette and try to produce the mood and feel I want with them. Although I have a rough gauge of what I want in my mind, I wouldn't plan the specific colors to use and normally end up mixing different types of colors in the same range to achieve what I want. Sometimes, I get really nice results, and at times disasters ([link] ) and recently, a huge block as I felt restless and lost when facing the palette without an idea.

In trying out the limited palette suggested, I was confined not just to the colors, but the amount as well... I was running low on pthalo blue. >_< Since the initial idea was a color scheme dominated by blues, I forced myself out of the original idea. Halfway through the painting process, I realised on the whole, it lacked a heavy dark tone (it quite tempted me to dip my brush into the other colors on my palette...) and tried limiting the water amount instead.

At the end of this practice... I wondered how much easier my life would have been if I nailed down the exact paints used at the start, instead of taking a bit of everything on the palette. Guess I've been feeling my way out with these paints all the while!

a creative idea well executed especially in the composition - good work. I'm still battling to find the time to finish my entry.
