Hah! Its probobly a good thing that there is not too much freedom in these games, otherwise many people would probobly just kill or rob everyone they met and have no actual idea of the overarching story whatsoever.
Which might not be a bad thing sometimes.

Reminds me of one of my first real tabletop D&D sessions, the dungeon master was very displeased when our party killed one of his npcs. Next time he won't make him attack us on sight, I believe

Yes, but all those delicious, delicious experience points. It might take forever and half a day plus lunch break, but those sidequests are worth it
