Description It just seems like Entreri keeps lapsing back into mindless obsession with Drizzt and Jarlaxle, his buddy, is not helping at all. I had fun doing them as chibis...think I'd have killed myself trying to do them all semi-realistic. I forgot what color Entreri's eyes were supposed to be, maybe gray? but I guess I just really liked that blue...

Jarlaxle would so do that kind of stuff just to mess with Artemis...

You definitely should! It's kind of a jump from the dark elf trilogy to the icewind dale stuff, but that's just because he wrote the dark elf trilogy as a prequel series. It's still really good, and some of my favorite characters are introduced. (Including Entreri!)

Yes, exactly. It was in one of the "Sellsword's Trilogy" books where they went for Vaasa.
I just love how Jarlaxle puts Artemis in those situations. I bet he's very entertained. Alas, he went a bit too far.

I read it all. Don't worry, I'm up to date.

If you like Jarlaxle and Artemis you really should read the "Sellswords Trilogy" - Servant of the Shard, Road of the Patriarch, Promise of the Witch King... Then again, maybe you should not? ... You only know once you read them.
Also, the two short stories are pretty neat. "That Curious Sword" and "Wickless in the Nether".

Entreri is not dead. Ooooor is he? It depends on how you define "Entreri" and "dead", I suppose. Artemis himself says: "Artemis Entreri is dead." Now what does that tell you?

Gah! You're a tricky one!...so "Sellswords" is different than the one where they go to Cadderly and Danica and fight Hephaestus to get rid of Crenshinibon?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Albuin In reply to enterlameprofilename [2011-03-14 10:39:07 +0000 UTC]

*fg* I believe that the problem we had is now solved.
See, because "Servant of the Shard" was originally tied to the regular Drizzt-series until someday
it got to be the first in its own trilogy called "Sellswords Trilogy" that deals with Jarlaxle and Artemis.
So actually, there's just two "new" books in that trilogy.

Yeah, I just hate when people go overboard and corrupt the characters to suit their own little fantasies. A little OOC is awesome and hilarious--even the actual authors sometimes use 'em. Do you have any fanfic posted on DA?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Albuin In reply to enterlameprofilename [2011-03-27 20:10:12 +0000 UTC]

There is only one I consider worth reading, which is also quite short. It's a letter from Jarlaxle to Artemis: [link]

Apart from that one I only have either original written stuff like musings, a poem, sort of, and recently I tried writing Jarlaxle and Artemis fanfic but... it's not good. Depending on what book I've read I either happen to make them best buds or a couple. I cannot help myself. I blame Mr. Salvatore for giving Jarlaxle a "rainbowcape". To that day I consider it the most bold act he's ever done. And I love him for it.

I completely understand when people do not like what fangirls come up with - I have fandoms where I feel the same way. Plus, some things are so, so, so, so badly written and taken out of context and are completely unbelievable. It happens. I don't claim to be a very good author (neither original- nor fanwise), but I do feel like even I can judge work now and then.

Jarlaxle is a very ressourceful drow which adds to his charm. I also like how he uses all these different wands... I imagine he must have quite a collection somewhere somehow under his vest or wherever he pulls them from. I swear that man is an old-school magician!

enterlameprofilename In reply to Albuin [2011-03-29 23:45:51 +0000 UTC]

Yeah...I liked his hat with the feather that could summon a huge bird to squash his enemies! lol.
That was a good letter but now I'm mad at you because I want to read the Sellswords trilogy and the library never has a complete Salvatore series!! I think you really got his cadence of speech/thought down nicely. ...So I'm guessing Jarlaxle tried to give Entreri some kind of magical enhancements and they had a falling out?
P.S. You're German? Really cool! I'm taking German in my high school, would you mind if I ever asked you some technical stuff?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Albuin In reply to enterlameprofilename [2011-03-30 00:15:13 +0000 UTC]

Whenever he did the feather trick, I couldn't help but think: Chocoboooo! :]

Oh, thank you very much. It means a lot to me. I'm still not too sure about the letter, but it's the one I feel most comfortable with sharing.

Do you really want to know? Well, I'm again not 100% sure because Mr. Salvatore works with huge gaps, but as far as I got it Jarlaxle gave Artemis a magical flute that somehow "messed" with his feelings. So Arty fell in love and... it didn't end well. In the end, Artemis blames it all on Jarlaxle. Really... it's sad.

Yeah, I'm German. Sure, you can ask me anything. I don't mind it at all. As long as it's not too "deep" grammer, that is. I mean, I can speak German, but expaining Grammar is hard. Ugh. ^^ (German makes no sense sometimes! Why is the table "male" and why is a cat automatically "female"? ...)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

enterlameprofilename In reply to Albuin [2011-03-30 01:37:44 +0000 UTC]

Sure!

Oh yeah, I'd heard that... and then they had the super fast forward so he'd be old, right?

Thanks! Yeah, I have a lot of trouble with the whole "nominative, dative, accusative, genetive" thing when it messes with spellings and construction...accursed definite articles! How long have you studied English?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Albuin In reply to enterlameprofilename [2011-03-30 08:10:35 +0000 UTC]

Yes, Artemis may look old, but thanks to his awesome vampiric dagger and a certain shade... he's still up and about with his usual assassin-ness.

Ah, those. "Wer - wessen - wem - wen?"(Nom, Gen, Dat, Akk), that's how I think about those "causes".
It's easier, then, to ask yourself which is which.

For example:
Wer ist das/da? - Who is there/it? --> Es ist Herr MΓΌller. (Nominativ)
Wessen Auto ist das? - Whose car is this/it? --> Das Auto gehΓΆrt Herr(n) MΓΌller. (Genitiv)
Wem soll ich diese BΓΌcher geben? - Whom should I give those books? --> Gib die BΓΌcher Herr(n) MΓΌller. (Akkusativ)
Wen hat die Polizei festgenommen? - Who did the police arrest? --> Die Polizei hat Herr(n) MΓΌller festgenommen. (Dativ)
...
I hope I'm not telling you wrong things here, but it always worked for me that way.

I've had English in school for nine years and after that, well, I study it now, too. I'm going to be an English teacher.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

enterlameprofilename In reply to Albuin [2011-04-01 01:27:00 +0000 UTC]

Yeah! It's that translation pattern! (Poor Herr Mueller) Thank you.
Nominative is generally easy because that's the case/form we learn the vocabulary in originally but I always have trouble figuring whether, in context of the sentence, to use dative or accusative case. Plus the tenses (present, future imperfect, past imperfect, present perfect, future perfect, past perfect) are like six in one for vocab...

I don't mean to patronize or anything but your English is really really good. I wish public schools in America started teaching foreign languages in elementary school.

That's great! Lol, then you could assign Salvatore's works in English and create generations of fellow geeks.

Albuin In reply to enterlameprofilename [2011-04-01 07:37:53 +0000 UTC]

(There was no Herr MΓΌller harmed during the process of writing this last comment. ) You're welcome.

I know, I know. Well, actually, I do NOT know why we have all these things. But that's linguistic evolution for you.
If it makes you feel better: The dialect we speak in the south-western part of Germany only knows two tenses. (simple present and present perfect.) Hehe. You distinguish between present and future by adding a term of date like "tomorrow", "next week" etc.
Life can be so easy.

Thanks a lot! It always means a lot to me when native speakers compliment me on my English. (grammar?)
I was lucky, I guess, with all those great English teachers and my nerdom, which early on required a high level of English in my daily routine. (Internet - yay!)

Don't laugh now, but I've been thinking about that option for so long now. The only problem would be that the novels are written, well, for native speakers and a regular pupil would be dumbstruck by the vast amount of new vocabulary. They'd loose interest right away... :/ *sob*

Yeah, it helps if you get a lot of exposure, I guess. Your grammar is fine, btw.
You "speak" English much better than many of my friends.

Aw...maybe if you taught at the collegiate level? /

*not to be mean, but "lose" ist wie "verloren"...loose is like a tooth about to come out=double "o"

Hehe.

Yes, they do. It's called "Umlaut", and I think you mean those: ΓΆ, Γ€, ΓΌ? Yeah, we couldn't live without them. ( for my grammar )
Really? ... That can't be. Well, I'm okay with writing and I guess whenever I do get the opportunity to speak to a native speaker I'm fluent. But still, my accent is always there. It's okay, though. It's fun. ^^

Sadly, I'm nearly done with my studies for secondary, which means I get to teach pupils from ~11/12 years to ~16/17 years.

Oh, thanks for the hint! I wasn't sure. So if the "lose" interest - they no longer pay attention. And it the interest is "loose", it's more like... uhm... well, technically it's not really an option. But I do get it with your example! Thanks!!

Gah! I knew it didn't look right! Thanks I love how phonetic German is--you have some basic rules and there are very few exceptions...

Oh...assign chapters for extra-credit or as projects, then? Those are good age groups. Do you have any schools that you're looking at for a position?

Lol...maybe distracted? Sure. I'm really sad because my German teacher is retiring this year and our school doesn't want to hire another one. :,(

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Albuin In reply to enterlameprofilename [2011-04-03 20:02:11 +0000 UTC]

Yep, that is the one good point about German. Once you know how to pronounce certain phonemes, those nearly always stay the same.

And just for the lulz:
I'm going up that hill. Ich gehe diesen HΓΌgel hinauf. I gang dean Buckl nuff.
English - German - Swabian (my dialect)

I always thought I could probably use Drizzt's diary entries, for example, because they're not too long, most often of philosophical -thus discussable- nature and the words used can be easily explained.
Currently I'm not looking for any specific schools. You get assigned to a certain school once you've reported your successful final exam to a central bureau. So there, nothing to worry about. I *could* look for a school close where I live but I'm not too sure how those schools would react. After all, all those personally applying teachers-in-training are additional administration effort and most schools are short in administrative personnel anyway. :/

That could be it.
That's a pity... I couldn' finish my Japanese classes this year, too, because the university cut funds.

...
Oh, and by the way, it's not "Herr Albuin". I'm a woman. But it's okay.
If I draw a beard in my face most people think I might be a guy.

Ah yes, the infamous dialects...we saw a video from a German exchange student in which their parents spoke a passage in Hoch Deutsch (which is what we're taught) and then in Bayrisch and the whole class was just like "...what?"

Yeah, I love those, they really make you think.
Oh, that's cool, they sort of draft you?

Yes, Hochdeutsch, that's it. Standard German, I believe. It's what everybody understands and most people can speak. (Unlike my grandma. Whenever she tries standard German it sounds ridiculously cute. ^^)

Yes, they do, somewhat. You just need to file something like a request and then you get assigned to a certain school where you'll work sort of "in-training" for 1 1/2 years. Then you can choose wether you want to stay or you can go to another school. Teachers usually stay in their first or second school. There aren't many who switch around.
