Another piece from the 'Asian Argonauts Project'. This is my redesign of the harpies.Originally in mythology they were women with the wings, tails, and talons of birds. Somewhere along the line they became these somewhat more grotesque, hag-like creatures that had a much more bird-like body. Recently some people have been depicting them as beautiful winged women again.
I wanted my harpies to be different - elegance coupled with eeriness, and a figure that is neither completely human nor completely bird-like. The feet are actually another pair of hands, and the face is more like a mask that splits open at the mouth to reveal a set of very sharp teeth. The eyes are black.

Ooohhhh... I... love... that long neck!
In fact, I love everything about your version of the harpy. The hand-feet are particularly nice, invoking that eerie feel you wanted, yet also kind of pretty, especially how they are raised up off the ground. Sort of like a weird pair of highheels, except biological.
And the wings look to be a decent size, seemingly large in relation to her body to make flight feasible for us to believe. The paint application is well done too, generating that soft feel of feathers. The same goes for the rest of the body.

This one so far has been hands down my favorite character design from your AAP project.(not to mention everyone in class, and at the portfolio event)
great handling of the soft and sharp edges in the wings and all around the form. I'd love to see this design in a game or movie in the future.

I hope this and your other designs find there way to a game or movie. if not you can probably start a kick starter and make a social game with your designs and story.
In the last portfolio class i was talking with the portfolio teacher on how Social Games are starting to move past vector art, you'd just need someone that knows Flash script.

What a beautiful design! The reds, whites and blacks are a nice choice! I love the eery facial features and the straight black hair. Gorgeous form and design!
