Description I was torn: traditional category or digital? Left is my original pencils, right my digital inks. Inks done with SAI. I love that program, just for it's inking capability.

A new character, a demoness. Her element is nature (wood), but I wouldn't be so sure that she's one of the good girls (no hentai, though)

This is most likely my last private work for 2008. I still have a ton of work to do, but I can't upload that and it's.. well, not that private.

The way her hair is draped about her horns then flows off behind her is lovely. Your inkwork is superb.

Love both, but the ink is done exceptionally well. I like how the hair strands hang in the antlers. Nice.

What is SAI?

im not sure if i have already commented on this piece when i first favorited it but it popped in my "random faves" and i had to take another gander.
one thing i appreciate is her unique face. i can tell you carefully observe facial features. it gives her much more character than the "stock" face i see so often for women characters.

I realy like this piece , and I can relate to your struggle with tradition and software. Honestly though , software ( no matter how expensive or advanced) will never be a substitute for true inking. The tablet robs you of your traditional hand skill / energy that you put into your drawing. With a Quill and brush you can give your lines life and natuural curves and fluxuations. Many will disagree with this because they have not made the effort to try and learn it with enthusiasm but having said that with your drawing skill you would very much enjoy Using the old tools. If I am wrong, I'll be suprised

Great work none the less.

Actually I prefer to ink with traditional inkpens. Simply because I can't ink that well with a PC. The reason I try to ink with a program instead of an inkpen is also quite simple... coloring with Photoshop is a lot easier when you a clean lineart to work with and by inking with the PC I can skip the step of cleaning my tradiotional inks.

JamesKirkland In reply to engelszorn [2008-12-17 12:47:07 +0000 UTC]

... please promise me that a talented artist like yourself will not ink only in Pens lol. You have so much more to gain from the proper tools. Lines from a pen are dead and flat. You must see this, no? Try a small quill. usually the type recomended by pro inkers are a crow quill size "102". Traditional inks that are done properly should not have to be cleaned up on pc. Your inks are what cleans your penciling so when you scan it your only task is to crop or adjust levels. I hope this helps your dilema. This helped me alot

No, Ive used brushes, pens and quills. Actually you'd be amazed how much the industry has improved. Try zebra pens. They work almost like a brush combined with a quill, giving you the same flexibility as brushes do and the control of a quill, without having to bother with smearing ink or other problems. I just like to stay open minded about my tools, that's all

Really like your style and this piece has definitely urged me to look at more of your work.

This one in particular shows to me at least three different mythos of inspiration resourced and I am hoping for more with that same diversity.

Yay, very good! Personally, I prefer the digitally inked version, except for the lips. I think the lips ought to be more like the ones on the pencil drawing.

Great designs on the body.
