This piece just works so well for me. The simplicity of it but also because you merged the creatures very well into one. The body is simply a crab's claw that leads up to the pincers. Yet that shape does make a very nice looking beetle. It's definitely a nice choice for this little guy and the inclusion of the subtle beach-like grounding around it helps to sell the design. The only part that is visually confusing to me is near the base of the left most leg. I'm unsure if it's part of that foreground leg or the underside of the background leg that's next in line. The positioning might just be unfortunate but it does cause a bit of confusion there.

Oh I have a bunch of things like this in my sketchbook, but before I knew much about design, I never fleshed them out because I always thought they suck or something because of they look so simple.
