My very first completely completed portrait lol (I'd done a lot of bits and pieces of them before this though). I did it for an art 1 assignment sophmore year.I consider this one an oldie but goodie. Although I should probably take a better picture.. A bit of the contrast was lost.
Done with a mechanical pencil and a 4b pencil. Didn't take very long.
Any comments or critiques are welcomed.
EDIT** I corrected a few contrast problems that occured when I took the picture of this. The tones now look much more like they do in life.

Holy crap! Didn't take long? Amazing portrait, such great details, especially his eyes and hair. Great likeness of an actor I adore for his comedy work, and feel is so wasted now. A funny English man pretending to be a serious American one. For shame Hugh! Anyway, if you haven't seen this, it's the best digital work of Hugh I have seen here... Check it out!

I know what you mean, his role as House has pretty much overshadowed everything, and a lot of people have forgotten anything he's done before it.
And wow, thanks for the link! That's pretty incredible, especially the eyes. Also, I'm glad they did something different with the background, it really makes it stand out from the numerous other drawings of this picture.

Hehe, yeah there's heaps of A Bit Of Fry and Laurie on youtube, it's the best sketch show of the early 90's I reckon. The last time I watched a season in one sitting I was cramping by the end of it!

Cool! I like the composition with the close cropped figure filling the page at an interesting angle. You have a great range of values here with plenty of contrast. It's a great piece of work!

No need to wonder why, he plays like the doctor with most personality on TV, and he appears many times as such cleverly sarcastic characters
I really need to draw him, he and Amanda Palmer, I think they both would be really interesting to draw (and I totally love them

Good work on the facial hair and the skin texture! Also, its nice to see you didn't just concentrate on the face, but that you continued his clothing to the edges of the page
