Description This is my entry into the Kubo and the Two Strings art contest. I was terrified I wouldn't finish it on time since today is the final day for submissions. I've been run ragged working at Panera, so I had to do what I could on my days off. I was thrilled when I saw this contest since I love Kubo and I was planning to buy the DVD when it released anyway, so why not try and win a copy lol

For those of you who haven't seen the movie, this picture is pretty spoilerific, so my apologies in advance. I wanted to capture Kubo's ultimate struggle... life without his parents. I lost my mom to cancer in 2009, so when I first saw this movie it hit me really hard. Losing a loved one is definitely the hardest thing any of us will ever have to go through in this life. The ending of Kubo is very sad, he lost his mom and dad (who he had only gotten to know briefly) and he gained a grandfather who was the cause of his parent's deaths. If that's not a huge struggle, I don't know what is. Poor kid ;.; I used the broken monkey figurine and the bow to further punch you in the guts. I hope you enjoy this piece, I put a lot of work and effort into it.

How is it that many people (myself included) thought the animated Titanic movie having a rapping dog was stupid and very out of place, yet this film set in Ancient Japan has a song from a British rock band made in 1968 and everyone loves it?Β

I have never seen an animated Titanic movie with a rapping dog, but that does sound intriguing lol As for Kubo, people love it because plain and simple (your personal taste aside) it's a really good movie and Laika continues to push the envelope on what you can achieve with stop motion animation. Its a beautiful art form and the movie is visually stunning, it has a great soundtrack, and while the story may not be super original, it holds up well. My only real criticism with the movie is that the main plot revolves around Kubo finding all of his father's armor to defeat the moon king, but after he accomplishes this great trial, it's all thrown out the window and he never needed any of it to begin with. Anyway, didn't mean to go on a long movie review here, but there's my opinion.

The long and short of it is, most people like this movie because it's high quality and it's good.

It isn't. Its cringeful and stupid. Just like the rest of the film.Β
Yes, the level of effort went into this film is amazing, though I think its very risky.Β
I had a feeling it was gonna be predictable. Don't worry, I like movie reviews

Well that would do it.Β

Well we're all entitled to our opinions, and we can agree that I loved the movie and you hated it lol Good talk.

Well I wouldn't go as far as saying I hated it D: I love stop motion. I was just saying it was kind of a weird choice in music.Β

So that song 'While my guitar gently weeps' is based off an old British song?

Wow, I like it Had no idea the song by Regina Spektor was a cover of a Beetles song. Thanks for shining a light upon my ignorance.
