UPDATE: I got 3rd in the best story category!

WHEW! I finally finished my entry for 's Halloween Masquerade Contest [link]

I know this idea has probably been done before, but I chose to use The Phantom of the Opera and one of my favorite songs "Point of no return"

All was silent as the arena became pitch black. Everyone waited with anticipation of the cliche Phantom of the Opera music to start blaring in their ears, but were stunned into silence as a soft tune floated through the black, and two horses entered the ring.

Side by side, black and white, the riders released their hands from each other and the horses parted to opposite sides of the ring.

The music picked up, and the sound of a man's voice floated in deep octave across the stunned crowd. The two horses were completely in sync, trotting in time with the music, and making intricate circles around each other. The riders were also very animated in their roles, reaching to each other as their mounts came close, and performing most of their ride with closed eyes.

Both horses slowed to a walk and met in the center, facing each other as the music quieted. As the music picked up again, they circled each other and separated at a slow canter.

Finally, the music reached its climax, with both man and woman singing in a frenzied unison. The horses met in the center, the black steed moving eagerly forward with the masked man. The woman in her festive dress atop her white mare followed in a trance, her eyes constantly on the man in the cape. He reached for her, and a gasp arose in the crowd as the horses moved intimately closer, their bodies gently touching.

The man was the definition of recklessness and abandonment atop his quick dark steed, while the woman displayed the calm, beautiful collectiveness of the white mare, a striking contrast to each other as they reached the end of the arena, and the music stopped.

Everything went black with the last octave ringing through the air.

I couldn't stop thinking of this idea, and although it took me over a week to find an idea, draw the horses and riders, and actually finish this picture, I think it was all worth it in the end

Love this. Only thing I disagree with is the riders. I just cannot stand the 2004 phantom. I honestly prefer the 25th anniversary or stage show. no fault of yours though! You didn't do this to please me! (well I mean, damn, you don't even know me, lol) But you did very well!

Thanks! I fail at humans - I'm so surprised you said I'm good I was proud that I didn't use a reference for them though

No problem. No reference? Well you must have natural talent for humans. The anatomy and proportions are great!
