Description *shoots self for the silly pun* I couldn't help myself.

Although I am happy that my 'drawing mojo' (as it is referred by friends) is back, I still had loads of trouble with this picture, starting from the pose, some of the anatomy, the clothing--it was as if Ryan really didn't want me to get him into a suit and was PHYSICALLY RESISTING.

Which he actually would do...he doesn't like suits.

And one of these days I'm expecting Hugo Boss to sue me for ripping off poses and clothes from their catalogs. Either them or Dolce and Gabbana.

EDIT: Thank you all for the faves; I really appreciate them but...do try to actually say something too, lol.

OH! That pun physically hurt!
But it's still a brilliant pic, and Ryan's suit looks appropriately fitting. Well done.

Puns are kind of awful, really XD but it really can't be helped when it fits so well, hm? Glad you have your drawing mojo back - and rather a great way to let it show too <3 I can certainly picture Ryan fighting anyone trying to get him into a suit tooth and nail *grin* don't know why he'd object so much to a suit considering how gorgeous he looks in one though...perhaps it's too restraining?
Minor thing - hands can be quite the pain to draw; though the basic pose of them is drawn well, it's just that the one holding the sigarette - the thumb and lower part of the hand seem a bit disproportionate in comparison to the fingers - might help to slim at least the thumb a bit down and define where the thumb connects to the hand. Reference images are good to use, though sometimes the particular light and shade of said image doesn't allow for a good outline of shape - as life-drawing would (aka, your own hands for example). Sorry for rambling on about details - I hope it didn't sound like complete nonsense XD Anyway, gorgeous portrayal of a character I'm beginning to be rather fond of; great work ^^

Don't apologize, I NEED this rambling D: The thing is, I can't FIND any decent reference and trying to work with my own hand is impossible. I know the position of the hand as I want it but I just can't get a decent reference! It's incredibly frustrating and rather than settling on something else I plowed ahead and fudged up... *headdesk* I'll come back to this when I DO find the kind of hand position I need, I swear...

D: Thanks though, you're awesome *hug*

Ryan's just a fussy little bitch like that. He normally wears any crappy thing he yanks outta his closet or off the floor so trying to get him into something nicer is a pain. He actually thinks he looks silly in quality stuff. I don't understand why I put that notion in him, or even when I did so.

._. Gotta love it when a character does things that surprise even the creator.

I'd love to ramble, though the problem with that is 1) stopping and 2) making sense *nod* The problem with drawing from the reference of your own hand is, it's difficult to hold your hand constantly in the exact same position and draw it at the same time (particularly if you're trying to draw the hand you draw with)- perhaps you could either get someone else to pose for you (or search DA's stock images), and/or make your own references by taking photos; you, after all, know exactly how you want that hand to look.

Not a problem, hun *hug* (well, aside from my tendency to run off on tangents and consequently get lost)

Characters are created, but in time develop this bemusing propensity to get a life of their own - keeps things interesting :3

Hehe, I know, I get that way when I ramble too XD

>.> I should really try photoing my hand...I just rarely do because I got shit for hands *snrk* No, really, they're not the best sight. Blah, I suck with excuses.

Indeed it does. It's best when you never really know or expect what they do.

*hums 'Ramble on'*

Unless you're drawing realism, a reference is simply a suggestion (artistic interpretation and all) :3

Makes them seem like actual people *nod*

@_@ I know. But sometimes it just won't work the way you want and you end up with a disaster area.

*ruffles hair* psh, hardly a disaster area - just an area that needs some minor adjustments :3 Hands sometimes happen to be a real pain in the ass to draw *pets* I'm in the process of attempting to depict someone drawing/shooting a bow

Oh God, bows/archery... have been my bane since I first conceived Cassie. I've been half a mind to just give her a bloody gun but she won't have it...

AbyssDemon In reply to ElvenAngel [2011-05-13 09:26:35 +0000 UTC]

I have a vague idea of how to depict one way of drawing a bow (by personal experience), but there's 4 ways or so (asian, european etc) and though I have images of them, I've a feeling my character will be using the most difficult one to draw Gaerwyn couldn't shoot a bow to save his life, but go figure his son can @_@ ...another example of a character getting a life of their own *nod* can't be helped; archery just fits the character.

ElvenAngel In reply to AbyssDemon [2011-05-13 10:25:34 +0000 UTC]

It sure does, and Cassie's an archer that can send Legolas on a run for his money... So yeah, problems. ._. I know what kinda bow she uses, but the posing is the really hard part. All those angles... >_<

I think I'm gonna have to dig out my ElfQuests, or watch Lord of the Rings several times... I'll most decidedly pass on attempting to draw someone shooting a bow from a direct front view at any rate - just the thought of all that foreshortening... ;___;

I have to do the same thing, hehe. I keep scouring the net for references all the time and when I find them I'm usually too lazy to do anything... *derp*

AbyssDemon In reply to ElvenAngel [2011-05-16 12:19:07 +0000 UTC]

I make lists with links of artistic interest, then forget or simply don't bother to check them When the urge to draw strikes, usually I don't feel like doing tons of referential research right then - so either I've gathered it long before or more likely, don't use reference at all (which I really should) *facepalms*

I save piles upon piles of pictures for reference. I try to sift through them every now and then or my hard drive would explode. I...rarely succeed in helping the situation. *facepalm*

AbyssDemon In reply to ElvenAngel [2011-05-17 13:01:59 +0000 UTC]

*pets* I generally do this as well, but as you say, it tends to fill up the hard drive, which is why I started making lists in Word or notepad with the links to the images (I get most of them from DA) - that way I also know exactly where I can find them instead of having to scroll through tons of images (I tend to just throw images in the same folder instead of having a lot of different folders sorted by subject - I've this quirk about not liking to categorize art).

I might have to resort to that, which will completely ruin my eyes... But for now, I must worry about the driving license D:

AbyssDemon In reply to ElvenAngel [2011-05-18 14:40:38 +0000 UTC]

*nod* issue with a list of links is you can't immediately tell which is which - you can categorize them some, much like you would when saving images in a folder; either by ascribing colors to the links, divide by subject etcetera - I've basically sorted them into two: resource images and inspirational images :3 Good luck on driving lessons/getting your license Phoebs *squish*
