Description My Deathbed characters have been craving some attention lately And I always wanted to draw this.

'Hero' and 'noble steed' don't really match up for Edgar and Victor.

Judging by how worried Edgar looks here and the fact that he pretty much stumbles his way through most of the story rather than being anything remotely heroic...it's pretty obvious that Edgar isn't really the kind of person you think about when you picture a hero.

As for Victor...what part of mutt horse (Friesian mixed with...something) that talks with an Irish accent, gives his rider more trouble than he's worth and swears more than an Irish sailor counts as 'noble steed'?

Still...I love these two. Victor tries so hard to play the heroic part for both of them. ^^

Edgar Milton & Victor (C) to me.

Hello! I was browsing the Critiquable gallery when I spotted this piece.

First of all, I applaud you for using proper grammar and punctuation in your artist's comments--most people don't seem to care about how their piece's descriptions are written, but to me, a well-written description makes me more interested in the art, and thus makes me interested in your characters (they sound like they'd be a fun pair to have lunch with!) e.deviantart.net/emoticons/c/c… " width="20" height="20" alt="" title="Clap"/>

As for the art, I'm no expert on digital work or anything, but there were a few minor (emphasis on minor) things that stood out to me. The only "big" thing, I think, is Edgar's left hand (the one holding the reins). It feels a bit on the small side.

The other things that I would think about are the shovel (I had to look at it a bit to figure out what it was), and Victor's mane and hooves. You may have Victor's mane and hooves exactly how you imagined them to be, but I think that, with Victor being a Friesian and all, his mane should be a bit longer, especially since his tail is so long and thick and pretty! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)"/> As for the hooves, they feel a teensy bit on the small side, but then again, that may just be a characteristic of the breed.

I would also consider making Victor's other leg visible--while the viewers know that Victor must have four legs (or you may very well have written him with only three legs! LOL), from an art standpoint, he looks a little awkward.

Again, these are all just suggestions! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)"/> Overall, the piece is great! (Ignore the stars: I saw this piece as character concept art and I don't think that those choices really apply, but they forced me to rate! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="24" height="18" alt="" title="CURSE YOU!"/>) I really love the expressions on their faces--it really gives the viewer an idea of their personalities!

You did a great job; keep up the good work! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/c/c… " width="20" height="20" alt="" title="Clap"/>

Thank you very much for the critique. And for the heads up that the shading completely hid Victor's back leg! I only just noticed because I moved to a screen with different settings. Before that, I guess my screen's brightness level made me think it was ok. I'll be fixing it asap.

About the mane and hooves though: I've pointed out in the descrip (btw I'm a Literature major, hence why I'm a natural grammar Nazi myself ) that Victor's a Friesian mix, which means he doesn't have full Friesian features. Add to that that he's not exactly naturally born...erm, I'd have to completely spoil my story so I must refrain from completing that.

Edgar's meant to have thin, feminine-ish hands anyway (part of a running gag about him) but I suppose I overdid it, trying to make the fact stand out. I'll also fix that.

As for the shovel... I've had to give it a Victorian-era look to make it stick with the story's time-frame. And it's...Edgar's trademark weapon/tool. He's weird like that. But I do think having lunch with these two could be fun and eventful, in a really bizarre way. Edgar's a bit of a walking stiff case without the technically dead/zombie thing.

Thank you so much for accepting my critique! I'm always a bit nervous about offering them--I'm always afraid that they'll be taken the wrong way. Have a cookie!

I do remember reading about Victor being a mix--I really shouldn't critique when I should be getting ready for bed! LOL Sorry! He really is pretty, though! And I figured that the shovel must have been Edgar's weapon before he got the fancy sword, or if not before he got it, he definitely prefers the shovel over the sword; it's a very interesting choice!

English/Literature/Writing majors unite! Thanks again!

You're welcome! *shares cookie*

Hahaha, yes, Edgar is a gravedigger by profession and the sword is a connection to his mysterious past! It's got a broken tip so it's shorter than its sheath but he still uses it, when he's not just decking people over the head with the shovel. And that darn thing is stronger than it looks (it's a running gag, actually). He does in fact use it as a lance once, in the story (wip still, sadly XD) and the result is halfway between hilarious and...bone-crunching.

BARTUG: I'm an unlikely hero too, only my strength ain't hidden, its obvious and great!
TENGAI: As is your- Oh I'm not bothering with this anymore.
