Description UPDATE: This tutorial is outdated. It is still relevant for people who run windows 7. Most Wacom/Photoshop related conflicts under windows 10 are caused by Windows Ink interference or by having Press and hold enabled on Right-click (disable this under Pen and Touch>Pen options)

- Follow this guide if you want to have Photoshop interpret your Wacom's imput without Ink: andyp123.blogspot.nl/2016/06/m…
- The latest version of Photoshop has a smoothing option, so you no longer need Lazi Nezumi unless you want a more advanced smoothing tool.

Old guide below:

I've spend a few days reinstalling my pc (most time went into sorting trough and backing up my files). When I was ready to get back to work I noticed that my lines in Photoshop looked horrible. As if they were build from smaller connecting straight lines rather than one smooth curve. Since everything worked fine before all my hard work, I knew something was up.

This isn't the first time I've had this issue either, and with some asking around I found out that:
1: A lot of people have this problem (some, I learned, don't even know they have it; One of my friends thought he was just that bad at drawing lines)
2: There's a (near) perfect fix for this:

There's so many fellow Wacom+Photoshop users out there, and the fix for this issue isn't all that easy to find. So I decided to share it here. I hope someone will have use of it!

_________________How to fix_____________________

First off: Are you a windows+Photoshop+wacom(Cintiq and Intuos) user?
If yes, continue to read.
If not, this fix is probably not for you (although, that means you probably don't have this exact issue either).

Step 1: Unplug your wacom device!

Step 2: Uninstall your current Wacom drivers, and any tablet drivers that windows might have installed.
Be very thorough. Remove all files named wintab from your System32 folder. Remove any Wacom folders from your Program directories (both of them if you run 64 bit).
(If you don't know how to do this, or want detailed information on how to do this properly read this: www.yjstudios.com/blog/2014/05… )

Step 3: Reboot your system.

Step 4: Download and install Wacom driver 63.6
(There's more versions of 63.6 out there, I went with 636-3. For more info, again: www.yjstudios.com/blog/2014/05… )

Step 5: Only then - not any sooner - plug your wacom back in again.

Enjoy your smooth lines!

Note: Why is this fix -near- perfect and not entirely perfect? Well, as mentioned in the yjstudios blog to which I linked, the 63.6 driver can have that nasty blotching issue. My experience confirms this, although it's pretty rare.
So it's up to you, always have jagged looking lines, or occasionally having to press ctrl+z because a blotch happened. It was an easy choice for me XD.

Here's some more wacom optimisation tips, for those who experience lag with their Wacoms:

_________________F.A.Q_____________________

Q: Does this fix work on a mac?
I suppose it could work, and I don't think downgrading the driver to try can do much harm. However, I haven't tested this so I can't  say with certainty that it will work.

Q: Does this work for Bamboo tablets?
I've only seen this exact problem reported for cintiqs and intuos tablets (assuming that's because they use the same driver family).
I recommend doing some standard troubleshooting before reinstalling (check settings, reboot your pc and so on), but if it's a persistent issue:
reinstalling wacom drivers and experimenting with various versions seem to improve most of this type of tablet problems, so I think in the very least it's worth a shot.

Tip: Still not satisfied with your lines? Here's a plugin that might help you with brushstroke smoothing:  lazynezumi.com/

This didn't work and disabling press and hold makes the pen unable to draw lines. It can only make dots.

Worked great, thank you. I'm kind of baffled the technical support couldn't help 4 years later and we still have to roll back to an old driver. But it does the job.

Hello, I have found a solution to the wobbly lines. Actually, it stems from a conflict between windows 10 ink workspace and Wacom tablet. It has nothing to do either with wacom tablet nor with its driver nor with the drawing softwares I'm using. And the solution is to deactivate windows 10 ink space as described in the following link: www.windowscentral.com/how-dis…
Now, there are no more wobbly lines in my drawings.

Heya. Yes, this tutorial is outdated and aimed at win7 users. Windows Ink is a pain in the butt in windows 10 yeah XD. I'll edit that in the description.

I have this exact issue with cs6 and an Intuos Draw tablet, but I'm using an older mac laptop... do you happen to know of any direction to point me in as far as finding a solution for this on a mac? Wacom's customer service is absolutely useless xD.

It's so wierd... Well the thing is. I recently discovered that I had this issu.

I usually do digital drawings on my pc , with my wacom art tablet.

But today I had to use my school laptop, because my bf wanted to use my pc for playing a game. So I gave him the computer. And went on my Laptop, because I wanted to draw.

So I did have paint tool sai on my laptop , but it said that the trial had expired. So I unistalled it, and installed paint tool sai again. But the cracked one. So when Paint tool sai were finished downloading. I went into paint tool sai. And wanted to do a quick test and edit with the brushes. While doing this I realized that the lines were a lot smother and better. And after this I compared my pc and my laptops lines with each other.  And realized that if I draw a line it would get smoother on my laptop , than my pc..

Ok so I finally managed to fix the problem. Both the pressure when I was drawing was messed up and the lines were all wobbly when trying to make straight lines. To break the solution up:

To fix the wobbly lines all I did was limit the mapping to one monitor (have 3 connected to the computer. Sorry if this doesn't help y'all single monitor people).

To fix the pressure issue I simply reinstalled the drivers (the newest ones) and suddenly it worked again. (Not the issue this thread is about but might as well write about it)

Anyway hope that clears it up for those of you who are still struggling with this problem!

I also don't use a tablet, I use this crappy mouse cause I need a new one but too lazy

ElsaKroese In reply to Wxfflez [2016-09-30 18:19:54 +0000 UTC]

That step is only to get rid of any old/faulty Wacom and or default windows drivers (not having the wintab thing is a good thing). Do you have a folder called Tablet under program files? (assuming you are a windows user)

I found this page because I had the issue and it made my drawings look like trash. I was thinking I was going to have to get an older driver but I checked and there was a new driver version out and that fixed the problem. I have a nontouch 13-inch Cintiq Idk if it is different for the Intuos or any other cintiqs.

-update I am rendering a video and the shaky lines are back Idk if it is just because of the video or if it is stuck like this again.

Hey there! Thanks for the tutorial! I recently got a new laptop that runs on WIndows 10, and when I installed my cintiq, I had issues with sensitivity. I fixed that by download the new driver on Wacom's site. But my lines are wobbly and stiff ,just like in the example above - and I fear the driver link you linked will not work for Windows 10 properly. By any chance, do you know how to fix this? I'd be very grateful if you did, I can't work properly with these stiff lines ahahah XD

I've finally figured out what is causing this in Photoshop.
The driver itself is not at fault, but Photoshop does seem to tolerate some more than others.
The next update of Lazy Nezumi Pro will have an experimental fix!

ElsaKroese In reply to GuillaumeStordeur [2016-06-02 10:24:02 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for letting us know! I should be updating LN anyway ^_^. I do also strongly suspect photoshop itself being a part of the problem.
For me, it was a permanent thing tho, when ever I had this problem my lines would always look like that until I downgraded the driver. Alt-tabbing or similar actions did nothing for me. I don't know if that helps.

DJSubterrain [2016-05-21 21:38:51 +0000 UTC]

Apparently it's not just a problem with Wacom, I just bought a Huion touchpad and was checking out reviews on YT, they all say in any software on Windows BUT Photoshop the lines are nice and smooth, Photoshop on Windows shows the problem you demonstrated above, Photoshop on the Mac does not.

A lot of people seem to recommend using Lazy Nezumi as a solution : lazynezumi.com/

I'm wondering if the problem might also be improved by unplugging or disabling the mouse, if you are vibrating the desk when using the tablet on a desk, this might be slightly nudging the mouse and since modern mice are all very sensitive and the pen is basically acting as a mouse, unplugging the mouse while using the pen might help?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ElsaKroese In reply to DJSubterrain [2016-06-02 10:31:41 +0000 UTC]

Nah, the mouse thing -although cleverly thought off- is not the problem. The glitching is too consistent and regular to be caused by vibrations/nudging the mouse/desk. You can easily confirm this by flipping your mouse upside down.

I've also suggested LazyNezumi in my notes, and I can recommend it indeed. I don't know about Huion, but I wouldn't be surprised if other tablets suffer from similar issues. Like Guillaume commented a few hours ago - photoshop itself is probably (at least a large part of) the problem.

BECAUSE I AM FUCKING LOSING MY MIND OVER HERE! I TAKE THE PENCIL AND EVERYTHING WORKS AND THEN I TAKE THIS WACOM BULLSHIT AND FUCK ME SIDEWAYS WHYYYYY....

It's better with Nezumi, but here on work I don't have it. I think I'll just try to kill myself.

ChargingTurtle [2016-04-10 20:37:32 +0000 UTC]

Before I do anything reckless... is this process expecially for Photoshop? I've got one of those small Intuos Pen and Touch, and I work on Paint Tool Sai.
Now, I'm not really used to work with tablets, so I can't really tell if I'm just bad or if I'm meeting the same issue, but I think it's the latter.
