I am so excited for you to publish your incredible tarot illustrations. They are absolutely stunning! The coloring and detail are exquisite. A tarot card illustrator needs a writer, to write the card meanings, and vice versa. I am looking for an illustrator for my tarot card meanings. Perhaps we could publish together. If you are interested, email me (Moriah_wind@hotmail.com). This is a sample of my writing style:
"...The Fool is the spark that sets everything into motion, the divine breath that gives life and inspires the first step towards fulfillment and completion. He is the cause behind effects, the power behind manifestations, and the seeds sown in every beginning. The Fool is potential, pure and innocent, neither positive nor negative yet containing the possibility of both. He is the unconditioned soul about to come into manifestation for the first time, to learn the lessons of the world...
The Fool is a powerful card; it begins in nothingness and reaches into infinity. With the Fool, your free will can literally move mountains, so seize the day. Take the chance to break free, and create a new reality. Live in the present. Trust your own abilities. Control your own destiny. Jump head first into the abyss of the unknown, and know that even if you eventually fall to the ground, for a while you will soar."

oh, yes, and I meant it! I've used many different decks. Are you going to publish them?

Thats the plan, lots more work to do, but already talking with US Games, they seem very interested. Do you think this may be a deck you would consider purchasing, I may have to generate some interest to show a pospective publisher.

Why yes! More than that, US Games goes everywhere!! I used to have a store in GA and we sold tons of Tarot decks. Mostly the softer ones, like Hansen-Roberts as opposed to Thoth. Make any sense to you??
How did you come to do tarot cards if you're not a reader? Many people have never even heard of them! I've been reading since 1994.

What gave you the impression I dont read? Ive been reading since the early 80's & have allways wanted to create my own deck, I finally have the time to seriously invest in the project, and Im LOVING it! I do think out of all the publishers out there dealing with cards, US games really seams to be the way to go. I know Llewellyn is another option but I havent had great "first impressions" from speaking with them, they seam to really want your first born, I feel like Im bringing the art to the table, they should handle the marketing, no?

I have heard little about Llewellyn except for their own P.R. But, when I had my store, US Games had it all. And, no, I don't think you should have to do your own marketing! You should just get to make your art!
What deck do you read? I usually use the Robin Wood. I like the use of traditional symbology (makes it easy to understand related to myth & symbolism, Jung's ideas, etc) and the pagan stylized nature of the deck. The Tarot of the Old Path is nice for that too, but a little too "earthy" for me personally.
I really get a sense of what my cards say by the emotion it evokes when I look at it. Then, I add in the context of the other cards and whatever was the question at hand when the cards are laid out.
That is so awesome that you now get to do your own deck! Your work is beautiful! I just take pics for my art. How do you decide what to put in each card? Tell me about your favorite deck

I absolutely adore the Medieval Scapini Deck, the imagery is vibrant, renaissance, and contains all the traditional symbolism necessary. There are so many really creative decks out there today, but I think so many of them stray from the original symbolism necessary to make them truly universal and in the spirit of the original Tarot. When creating a card, my first step is to ensure that it contains all of traditional symbolism, making it easily interpreted to both the expert and novice reader. I then spend allot of time really concentrating on keeping each card in each suit cohesive, so the deck doesn’t appear to be "all over the place". I also really love and am inspired by the artwork in the Aquarian Tarot.

That is so great. I definitely want to buy your deck when finished. There are so may beautiful decks, the scapini being on of the most, but you are right about the drifting away from traditional symbolism. I had several decks that were beautiful, but very hard to read. I'm not a psychic or anything, so my readings require something real to look at as a platform for what I will say. For example, the voyager deck made me go, huh? I would use the aquarian deck as well. I do like it.

I read intuitively, but the symbolism is still so very important. I’m really enjoying our correspondence! Don’t hold your breath waiting for the completion of my deck; I have sooooo many cards to go! LOL!

Very familiar with all the symbolism you used. i was visualizing how i would do it with a camera...which is much more limited...you have to have models, etc....costumes...or just do something very symbolic and less defined, i guess.
