Description (2008) 2.5" for the pendant including bail, 16" for the necklace. Silver clay (shaped, carved, fired, enameled and antiqued) enamel (Nile green, pale green, opalescent), ocean jasper beads, silver lentil beads, Hill Tribe silver beads, silver wire, clasp finding.

Finally I'm back to doing clay work, and with some commissions coming up and some Christmas presents on the way, there should be more in the next few weeks.

For the four element pendants I chose the traditional alchemistical triangle symbols, a triangle pointing upwards for Air and Fire, a triangle pointing downwards for Water and Earth. The triangles for Air and Earth also have a horizontal line bisecting it, which I tried to incorporate by giving those two pendants more of a horizontal composition, and Fire and Water pendants more of a vertical one.

I carved the design of a cresting wave into the Water pendant and then filled the carved areas with enamel powder. For this pendant I had the stone beads in mind first - just wanted to use these gorgeous ocean jasper rondelle beads, so I was glad to see that my enamel choices picked up on the bead colors perfectly.

Yes, there is a series of all three, if you look in the Silver Clay sub-gallery, they are all together.

No sweat, sometimes I also don't do the deep-dive in another deviant's gallery, just look at the featured pieces...

Fun and funky jasper, it's making em wonder what I have, because mine is shades of green. Like the shape and power in the wave. It looks like you've beaten the enamels into proper submsission.

Thanks so much! I saw the strand of beads in a little high-street store in Fredericksburg (small touristy place in the heartland of German-inhabited Texas hill-country) and I just knew I had to have it... The rest like the idea for the pendant and for the entire series just came from that strand. So far I've looked for more, but whatever ebay or Firemountain call "ocean jasper" is a total joke in comparison. Musta been a lucky fluke...

I sometimes think jasper is a catch all for any stone the dealer isn't sure of.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ellygator In reply to LadyBlacksword [2008-11-16 13:52:27 +0000 UTC]

Definitely a cool stone. I have a few rondelles left that didn't make it into the necklace and a few round beads. I recently put the stone name into an ebay seach and a lot of different materials came back, so I think it's a pretty generic name. However, the type I have has a nice beige matrix with sea-green to turquoise areas embedded in it.

LOL! This one was the first that started the whole series... I had just bought a strand of ocean jasper during a road trip, and the next few days had nothing else in my head than planning this necklace. The other elements kinda developed from that.

Ellygator In reply to NoBuddy-else [2008-11-15 15:10:17 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! I needed a 'vertical' design, even though water really is more horizontal, so eventually a cresting wave came to mind. Muchly indebted to Hiroshige's immortal wave woodcut for this one...
