Description (2009) 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", paper mache, tempera paint, metallic paints and glazes, ribbon

The last of the four Death Eater masks I made this August. For this mask I used the drill to texture the mask surface once the body was finished and before priming and painting. This way the "metal" outside of the silvered inlay pattern looks like it was hammered into shape. Again, while the design is loosely based on the movie masks from the HP films, the actual pattern, mouth grille shape etc. are original.

Thank you. It really started with a slip of my Dremel, but now I'm happy it happened...

The texture on this is amazing. The metallic paint is really able to star here. wow! (My dreams would be filled with these if I worked with/on them, however...eek!)

I soooo could not do that. What masks I have (including one from my face [link] ) are in my sewing room and I have my back to them when I'm working there.

Lol your house must be something to behold filled with masks and (I'm guessing) turn of the century decor suited to Harry Potter.

I always wanted a hobbit house myself but I adore the Burrough. It's messy but homey. I could live there. Go Weasleys!

I'd imagine you living in a mansion fit for the Malfoys. Luxury all the way.

Ellygator In reply to elderarc [2009-10-11 13:29:21 +0000 UTC]

I also like hobbit architecture - it's existing within the landscape rather than dominating it. The Burrow sounds like fun, but I'm a bit too much of a neat freak to be able to survive there...

As for my own place - lots of pictures, lots of books and nice wood floors!

elderarc In reply to Ellygator [2009-10-11 14:37:41 +0000 UTC]

I think what draws me to hobbit architecture and the burrow is homeyness. Warmth and safety and kind of a nestling feeling.

I seriously would love to round all my doorframes and live underground with exposed beams, etc and simple designs. For the burrow, I think it's just the well-lived-in feeling and sense of love and, as I said before, a 'nest'

I'd love to live underground. I wouldn't have to worry about hurricanes and tornadoes anymore. They have a few experimental mound houses a city or so over. Unfortunately, Florida's sandy ground and high water table don't allow for basements or underground living unless you sink a plastic pod or something lol.

Ellygator In reply to elderarc [2009-10-13 14:23:22 +0000 UTC]

I miss basements, too. I grew up in two houses with basements back in Germany, and they are just great: places to store fruit preserves and potatoes, a bit spooky and mysterious because of the water heater and central heating for the house with its strange smell and noises, my father's woodworking shop with all his tools and the scent of turpentine and fresh sawdust, my mum's wash-kitchen where we'd hang up the fresh washed sheets and towels to dry. Texas homes also have no basements. Now I stuff everything into the shed and garage, but it's not the same...

That's a clever way of texturing! Awesome as always. You thinking to start your own DE group? You'll have enough masks to outfit them! hee hee

Ellygator In reply to hyenacub [2009-10-10 13:10:12 +0000 UTC]

Yeah we should start a Dallas Chapter - more for the purpose of prancing around and looking cool rather than torturing muggles, though!
