Description (2010) 3.5"x8", size 15 seed beads (matte bone, glossy black), nylon thread

Just a very simply zebra design, but since I now own a zebra-striped top and a pair of cute zebra pumps, I thought I needed to accessorize. This was fun to bead and is really versatile, especially with a bit of a tan to off-set the bone white.

Oh yeah, and Germany dropped out of the world cup while I was beading this - though since then it does not seem to be particularly jinxed...

I know I really ought to put up a drawing again some time soon, but my next lion is still in the works and will need a few more days.

Thank you! I love a bit of animal pattern for the summer, particularly if it doesn't involve cruelty to animals!

I wonder if it is possible to bead this kind of things, with holes in it, not as much as a lace, but to occasionally incorporate holes into this kind of tightly knit design? Make it look tattered^^...

It's really lovely, simple is cool! lovely feeling!

Ellygator In reply to AoiShu [2010-08-03 03:29:39 +0000 UTC]

That's an interesting idea. Shaping Peyote is definitely possible, though a truly ragged look would take some planning... Thanks!

i love ragged things to go with tidy things - like a hand band and necklace shiny rags with a simple white shirt!

woudl be sooo glam...

dah, I'd order one LOL.. but i never can plan when i have money - and mostly lately I don't really have any savings T-T...

if you can shape these beadings, I wonder if it's possible to make 3d things - like flowers, each petal separate then connected. well flower is the most obvious idea, but wow.. i wanna try making these.. but i tried with tutorial and kinda failed

[link] - i made this out of fabrick, ne, but i was wondering f it'd be possible to make petals shaped of beads...

I love this... the stripes are so realistic... and the off center pattern is absolutely perfect!!! Lots of visual interest there, makes you want to stare!!! Awesome!!!

Thanks so much! I really liked the organic feel of the finished piece, despite the fact that the beads always make it look a little pixellated...

catskillmountainmuse In reply to Ellygator [2010-08-08 00:19:57 +0000 UTC]

That's a given... sometimes we look too closely at our own work instead of stepping back and looking at the piece as a whole... you got the effect you were shooting for and then some... the 'pixels' are not what catches the eye!!! It's a great piece!!!

It sounds like the only thing you need to complete your zebra ensemble is a certain feathered hat I do understand, though; I'm still kicking myself for sacrificing my leopard print shirt to the pre-move closet purge.

In all seriousness, I laughed when I saw the thumbnail for this, as it's just such fun. Beautiful execution, as always! I especially like that the design is asymmetrical, with the seam for the stripes running close to the bracelets border. It doubles the visual interest and makes the bracelet more versatile (seam top, seam bottom).

Idea fairy thought: Perhaps a Quagga-inspired version, with the black and white stripes fading mutually into brown?

Another lion? *perks ears* So we are competing... *wink*

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ellygator In reply to ArdenEllenNixon [2010-07-31 12:11:28 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for noticing the detail with the asymmetrical seam. Some zebra designs can look a little dull, but having the stripes run together like that added some interest and an organic feel to me. Like the idea of a "fade", and the tree colors make such a good summer trio.

As for lions, and as you can probably attest yourself, they are just too much fun to draw, and once you are hooked - well you know the rest!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ArdenEllenNixon In reply to Ellygator [2010-08-01 11:40:44 +0000 UTC]

In addition to the seam, the fact you kept your strips delicate and wavy as opposed to fat fingers of black makes the design more naturalistic. I look forward to any Quagga-esque design you come up with, but then, I do have a soft spot for extinct animals. Bring on the Tazzy Tiger and Dodo-themed pieces!

As for lions, they are my artistic crack. I'll have two finished by the end of today--it feels so good to just paint and not have to futz with maintenance people for the first time in a week!--and I greatly look forward to seeing yours. I trust you've seen the beauty that Sooper-Deviant just uploaded? [link] I don't know how or when yet, but this one, too, shall join my painted pride

It's officially Elly Day in my comments!

I've one more lion to do (our Christmas card this year, actually) before tackling the reference photo I shared with you, but I greatly look forward to that one. It inspires the same (for lack of a better term) magical buzz that I felt before sitting down to dear "Je Maintiendrai" and "Sun King." It's so nice when you can feel a good one coming!
