Quick question! Is this a girl or a boy?
Ok, before you hate me, hear me out. I've seen many an OC in my time. Many clever, many dull. Many interesting, many boring. Many original, many ripoffs. I've never found myself stuck trying to figure out what gender it is. I'm probably being to harsh right now, but even the name left me confused. Ferret Shock has to be the most androgynous name I've ever heard. At first glance I thought it was some filly like snips or snails, but then a resemblance of Babs Seed. Now I can't tell if it's a tomboy or a young boy. As I said before I'm probably being a bit harsh, but it distracted me a lot more than I would have figured. (It also doesn't help having a little but-rump under the right wing)
What about the rest of he- it? It's not bad. The biggest thing is... it's just not bad. The shadows aren't bad, the lines aren't bad, the colors aren't bad. And it's cute enough, I mean- holy shit, FRECKLES! Isn't that cuteness lesson #1, "Give it freckles"?
Anyway, there's nothing wrong with he- she- it! I just can't bring myself to say it excels anywhere. I'm sure it, like every OC in creation has a story of its own to tell. But as a portrait, I merely give it a pass.
Ferret Shock, I hope I don't offend.
Cheers,
--Michael

Lol, That was perhaps the most amusing take on Ferret Shock I have ever recieved. First off it is a female. Second, the name is ambigous and frankly I am not a huge fan of it, but it has stuck around for so long its not going to easy if possible to change it.
I honestly wasn't trying to make great art here. Merely testing out a shading technique and a few new brushes. I actually have a whole folder dedicated to her, also known as Ellie Featherweight. I agree with the critique that it is pretty average and yeah, it is kinda boyish. Ah well, we can't score winners all the time.

Hey, and I'm not a professional critic. (Besides, you think I'd be here if I could be getting paid for this?)
I'm glad I saw it, and happy to share
