Oh this is gorgeous Elle! I love the deep reds and oranges in the sky and how the tree branches contrast against it! Great capture!

...Sailor's delight!" (A true statement if you're crossing an ocean!)
beautiful shot, btw. I haven't seen a pretty sunset in longer than I can remember.

Thanks! It was true here too, the next day was awesome! That had to be one of the best sunsets I have ever seen in my life. I didn't do it justice but I was trying so hard just to catch the whole thing. I don't know that I have ever seen so many people just standing outside looking at the sky at one time before ha ha. It was just incredible!

I think the prettiest sunset I ever saw was when I was about four days out of Honolulu. The day had been nasty, with squalls off and on all day, which meant I didn't get much sleep. Anyway, that weather front moved off to the west and left just a few cumulus clouds off to the west. I'm guessing it was a cold front, because the last of the day's sunlight shot through the ice crystals in those clouds, which acted like prisms, and I had the whole gamut of colors from blue to green to gold to orange to red. Two nights later, it had gotten super dry (imagine that on the ocean!) and I got to see 'The Green Flash'. That's the only time in all of my ocean sailing, and I guess I was lucky. None of my other sailor friends ever saw it in the Northern Hemisphere. My friends that I went to Tahiti with saw it a couple of times in the Southern Hemisphere.
Ma Nature can come up with some pretty spectacular lightshows. We were in the Dry Tortugas when the Perseus Meteor shower happened, and in the Dry Tortugas, like no other place I've ever been, the sky is always so clear at night you'd swear you could pluck stars just by reaching out. Anyway, watching the Perseus Meteor Shower in the Dry Tortugas was absolutely awesome. I stayed awake the whole night that it peaked. Jack Daniels and I had a wonderful night watching the shooting stars. I just slept the next day while everyone else went diving. I even tried to do a timed shot with my camera, but even as smooth as it was, there was too much motion, and I didn't want to wake everyone else up by starting the dinghy and heading for shore with the camera and tripod. LOL...
