Description

Something I’m currently working on - illustration for a book that made my cry for the whole evening and still does. Two vikings’ wives, totally different yet bound by life, fate or coincidence.

Pencil on paper, colored version will follow

P.S. As always, I'm curious if anyone will recognize the book (Polish readers only, sorry:[)

One is a Christian and the other one is a pagan, right? Nice costume design, well done! Would it be too much trouble if I asked you to kindly provide a link to whatever was the inspiration for the pagan lady's fur collar thingy? I've never seen fibulae used in this way, to attach (?) a collar (or perhaps just never noticed)... Thanks in advance!

The Cross and Thor's Hammer actually represent the men, they love. Halderd never became Christian, she's more what we would today call an atheist, while Sigrun sticks to the old religion although it hurts her that she will never be reunited with her husband after death.

As for the fur, I would love to provide you with a link, but... this was my own invention, probably also very inaccurate, since you never seen it, sorry ;_:

No need to be sorry about that - it's possible, I guess, just somewhat unusual.

They are so beautiful and as far as I can see they are historically accurate as well :3

You rock! (and i wish I knew what book this was, and that it was available in english or swedish )

Thank you:] And it's a big compliment, because I did some research before drawing them, I took some artistic freedom, but tried to stay true to the historical design.

It's unfortunately available only in Polish The name of the series is Północna Droga (the North Way), written by Elzbieta Cherezińska. Unfortunately I don't think there are any translations available.

Hm... Czyżby "Saga Sigrun" i w ogóle "Północna droga"?
