It's been almost a year since I did my last contest, so why not have another one, this time a Make Your Own contest for familiars/Cupii?
Deadline: 15th 30th of September 15th of October 2015, midnight in US west coast time (California)
What is MYO?
It means make your own. This means that you get to design a familiar of your own that follows the species guidelines that are provided. This creature also becomes a character of yours. Oh, and before I forget to mention this...
You get to keep the design you made regardless of whether or not you win! The winners get money and art prizes
There's no additional costs to keep them. The only exception would be if your familiar doesn't follow the species guide, in which case I'll ask you to change the features that infringe upon the rules.
Make sure to read their species guide to know how their designs work! Reading the full species info is optional but gives you more info on how familiars and their masters work. I recommend reading the FAQ too as it answers a whole bunch of questions you may have.

They are feline-like little creatures - often only 30-40 centimetres (11" to 1'3") in height and 6-15 kilograms (13 to 33 lbs) in weight - with blank round eyes, wings, and a whole lot of fluff. They do not need to eat or breathe to survive, but they have lungs and a stomach so they usually do it anyway. These immortal creatures are naturally curious towards magic, and have the capacity, and even the drive, to learn it on their own. They are often the companion of a powerful mage, which they share several benefits with thanks to a spiritual bond. ... A quick summary of their design specifics
- Familiars are as large as your average house cat, only much skinnier. They can vary in size but generally remain small.
- Their eyes are always white in colour and oval in shape with no pupils.
- Wings, no wings, horns, no horns, it's all possible as long as the guidelines are followed.
- They always belong to one school of magic, not more or less. This can be ice, fire, wind, earth, death, life, darkness, or light.
- There's no limit on markings, though do keep in mind for their backstory that more marked familiars are stronger.
- Familiars can wear clothing/accessories but keep in mind they either have to be capable of putting it on themselves or they have to have an owner that can put it on for them, and it must be something they wouldn't constantly shake off by running/flying/moving in general. No accessories or clothing is rare.
- As I said, there's no exact rarity tiers, but keep in mind that slapping together the features that are seen as less common doesn't guarantee a win.
Contest rules
- No need to join a group for this, though LivianSpecies is a group for familiars and several other species you could join if you want to see more. Entries can be submitted to this group without being a member.
- The skill level of the artist isn't important, the design will only be judged on the way it looks, not how it was drawn.
- You're allowed to keep the design you made for free as an OC.
- As far as the lore goes, your familiar can either live on Life or in a world of your own. I prefer them to be Livian but I also understand that if you can't or don't want to do that. The FAQ includes how they can live on another world.
- You’re designing this familiar for you, not for me. Winners get to keep their familiar. This means I’d rather see you create a familiar based off of your own tastes and ideas instead of trying to create one that pleases me. Designing something you’d like to keep using is the main goal here.
- READ THE SPECIES PAGE!
What needs to be included in the entry?
- At least one clear fullbody drawing of the familiar you made.
- A written description with basic stats (mandatory: name, gender, personality, magic type, and backstory; other stats are optional) that can be as simple or as detailed as you wish.
- Which world they live in (Life or another world).
- Exactly how strong they are, a summary of their powers.
- If they have an owner, who owns them.

I’m aiming for at least 10 participants, so as long as that number isn’t reached the contest won’t end and it will be extended until a further date.

How will the designs be judged?
First and foremostly by the design itself. Which design elements have been used, how do the colours work together, is the design coherent, etc.
Next to that I'll also look at the information you add to the deviation, how you've integrated your familiar in the world. This is a less important point but can still decide if an entry is seen as great or just good.

Ah, cool! Do you think you'll be able to scan the picture before the deadline on the 15th? If not, that's no problem, but I'd love to see the pictures in their full glory without the limitations of an iPad camera
Also, a small point, familiars don't really have a visible nose. It's not that much of a deal but if you plan on drawing this lovely more often, it may be something to keep in mind c:

Length shouldn't be a problem, I actually really love reading longer character profiles! It's just that my current motivation disagrees with me here (//stares at 30+ messages in my inbox I have yet to reply to) and it can take a little longer to reply, but I got there ^^

That's pretty cool ^^ The master doesn't have to be human, most of my own characters who own a familiar are demons actually. As long as the master is sentient and has a stronger mind than the familiar's, they can be a master. So a fursona is perfectly fine!
