Description Harsh rain rapped on the windows of the tiny apartment. The sky outside was dark and scattered with stars, hardly visible against the heavy storm clouds that threatened to crack with thunder and lightning.

The rhythmic sound of rain beckoned for the restless pegasus to sleep; but it was a call she couldn't answer, no matter how hard she tried. She held her pillow against her ears, curling up into herself, trying to clear her thoughts with no luck. She had lied down hours ago now to try and sleep, but her mind still buzzed with thoughts she couldn't escape.

Stormcloud had been an insomniac her whole life, but these past two months had been hell for her. Every night, every single night, for the past two months it was the same. She spent hours restlessly staying awake, her brain racked with more and more guilt as time went on.

She had promised to go back.. but she knew she wouldn't. It was a lie.

It was a lie.

She pushed herself out of bed. She knew she wasn't getting to sleep, not tonight. Her blanket dragged behind her, hooked over her wings in a way she didn't bother to fix. The tiny apartment kitchen she walked into was dark, but she didn't bother to turn the lights on. There was barely any coming through the windows, but it was fine enough for her.

She hoisted a teapot onto the burner, grabbing a mug out of one of her cupboards and a tea box out of another. The tea wouldn't help her sleep, but it helped to comfort her ever so slightly. She let her mind drift a bit as she sat and slumped down in her chair, waiting for the water to boil. Why are sleep spells so luna-damned expensive.. what creature's got upwards of 1000 bits to spend on one night's sleep.

In the silence Stormcloud couldn't help but think about it. It was always at the back of her mind. Nagging her. Taunting her.

Two months ago, she had moved out of her parents' home. Twilight's home. On the day she left everyone had been so sweet. So sickeningly saccharine. She had hated every moment of it; every single movement they had made, every single word they had said, dripped with a melancholy tone that permeated the whole goodbye. Stormcloud just wanted it to be over then, but even now it felt the same.

She had been waiting to get out of that luna-damned castle for two years and they just kept holding on. They made her promise to come and visit at least once a week but she knew it would never happen. After what she did.. why did they even still want her around? They should have hated her. They should have wanted her gone. She was the one who ruined their-

The whistling teapot shook her from her thoughts, prompting her to get off her chair and turn off the burner. She poured her water and left the teabag to steep, thankful for the moments break from the blanket of silence that lay over the dark room. In the silence her guilt only grew stronger, she needed something to try and beat back the feeling.

Stormcloud had made many mistakes, every one cultivating its own garden of guilt in her brain. She couldn't stop herself from obsessing over ever little thing she messed up, but she would push it down and repress her feelings until they all but disappeared. But it didn't matter how far down she pushed it, it would always end up resurfacing on nights like these when she couldn't sleep.

She nestled her mug in her hooves, the warmth it gave off giving her the slightest comfort. A low, rumbling thunder sounded outside as the rain grew heavier and heavier.

She wasn't getting to sleep tonight.

poor little stormy.. can't get a break, can she. owo can you guess what happened two years ago~

I finally drew and wrote a story for the hollowverse.. who am I lmao. hopefully my writing isn't too bad and y'all actually enjoyed reading it.
stormcloud and I have a lot i common.. whoops. I, too, am an insomniac with no job. I don't have as bad of a guilt problem, though.

also, realistically, stormy's bedhead would be a lot worse than this but I'm not great at drawing messy hair. oh well~

Holy shit, this is really cool! Your writing's pretty damn good so you've got nothing to worry about on that front, and the art is stellar as well. Can't wait to see what happens next/what happened two years ago
