Description Here is Hufflepuff, founder of my house! Although Hufflepuff was the first historical founder I did, it was not then a full-fledged project, and I have drawn a new picture that incorporates all I've learned since then and gives Hufflepuff her full place with the others.

Welsh Hufflepuff is showing off the vine and animal embroidery style found in the Llan-gors textile, the only surviving example of early medieval Welsh clothing. (Her animals are of course badgers, however.) Other than that, she is dressed quite similarly to an Anglo-Saxon woman with her veil, long tunic, and wrinkled sleeves. She has a ring with a gemstone for each of the other founders, symbolising the unifying quality of Hufflepuff house. The yellow of her dress comes from the weld plant.

She is magically drawing water out of her cup, an artefact that would survive in her family for over a thousand years until it was destroyed by Hermione Granger. The cup is in the style of early medieval chalices (closely inspired by the Irish Ardagh Chalice) and decorated with diamonds as they are the jewel symbolising Hufflepuff in the hourglasses. (The cup's diamonds were lost to greedy descendants throughout the ages.) The cup echoes both Christian Communion chalices and pagan Welsh cauldron lore.

I am so pleased with how this series has turned out! Hufflepuff was the quickest out of all of them. This picture was done with pencil, coloured pencil, and Micron pens, and it was digitally restored to its original colours (more or less) using Pixlr.com. Please note that the embroidery on the bottom of the picture is just as sharp as the rest in person but got blurry when I photographed it. Some days you just gotta HUggley Puffley your way through the world. This woman looks like she truly knows how to do that.
The bottom embroidery is really pretty and captures that fantasy element. Nice Last Unicorn colour scheme for it. And that pouch on her belt is a cyclops, but despite its questionable stare, it does a fine job.
And the rings area nice touch!

THANK YOU SO MUCH for your wise and delightful comment! Your insights into Helga's worldview, the homage to the Last Unicorn, and your just concern about the motives of the pouch... all is wise and wonderful!

Thank you for taking the trouble to dress her in clothing of the correct era. One sees so many illustrations of Founders dressed in outfits from the High Middle Ages, or the Elizabethan era, or even the 18th century. A thousand years ago means before the Norman Conquest!

Thank you for your comment! My favourite era of history is pre-Norman British Isles, so the whole purpose of this project was drawing the founders in clothes from that time period! I like seeing pictures of the founders even when they're not dressed historically accurately, but it would be cool if more people drew them in clothes from their time period!
