The thing about paint is it's a lot easier than everyone thinks, it just requires a LOT of patience. I do paint images too - but not really portraits. You just need a heck of a lot of time. I've never drawn directly onto a photo though. I generally have the photo in another window and check a look at it every now and again

completely true! The only thing I'd add to ms Paint is a layer system (like photoshop) and some keyboard shortcuts. But it's really easy to use, and that's why it's such an awesome program ^^
