Description

After it rained one day and the sun had come back out, I decided to go for a walk with the camera. I stopped at a bush to take a picture of something else when I saw this little guy.
I was quite happy to spot a ladybug, and happy I would get to try to take it's picture ^_^
I was quite amazed to see on closer inspection that the limb it was on, was covered in these little tiny aphid guys and the ladybug dude was eating them!
I had heard that ladybugs were good and that they would protect your roses from aphids but I had never see any thing like this before!!
It was really strange and amazing to watch.
They were all on the same stem together
The ladybug was so slow and calm it just walked up to one and stared to eat it 0_o
and the other aphids didn't seem to care and never tried to leave or anything, it was almost like they were lined up for the ladybug! After the Ladybug finished the first one it slowly walked forwards and ate the next aphid in its path.
And after the ladybug had it's fill it backed up,
and went and rested on a leaf.
And the aphids continued not to notice.

It's kind of sad that I couldn't got a better picture of all this
but I still wanted to share

Thanks for the comment!

Yeah actually I was real socked to find out recently that there are more than 450 native species to North America alone. And over 5,000 species worldwide of the ladybug Family
So that's probably why some times we see red ones and some times we see orange ones

Yes, you're right, it's one of the most curious things of the Nature ! Your eye is piercing, it's something good !
I remember a ditty from my infant-school about ladybird, and I think it's that why I vry like this ladybird

Coccinelle demoiselle, belle Γ  beaux yeux
Coccinelle demoiselle vole jusqu'aux cieux
Petit point blanc, elle attend
Petit point rouge, elle bouge
Petit point noir coccinelle au revoir.

Lady ladybird, pretty with pretty eyes
Lady ladybird fly to the heaven
White little point, she waiting
Red litttle point, she move
Black little point, good bye ladybird

What are aphids anyway?? I know it's probably a stupid question, but i never heard the word before.

if you just slapped your head i don't mind if you me.

ELaiNeLight In reply to fabnt [2007-09-16 19:46:09 +0000 UTC]

Well I can't say I'm an expert on aphids
But like I said above my knowledge of aphids was that they do harm to rose plants and it's a very tiny bug.
I hadn't ever seen one before that day.

I well be submitting a pic where you can see the aphids a little better on ~ELaiNes-DarkRoom some time soon-ish
