So I've just been playing around with Skinedit for Minecraft, and made a bunch of my characters into skins (and a few licensed characters too). Fun! Feel free to download and use!I may be into taking requests, too.
Oh, and if you use one of my skins, would you be so kind as to send a screenshot? I love to see my work in action!

Just extract the texture to wherever, then upload it on the "profile" section on Minecraft.net.

Log in to minecraft.net. There should be a link at the top that says "profile." Click on that. Then there's a place to upload a skin, and that's where you put it.

I'm sure you can replace the default "hurt" sound with whatever you want. It'll just sound like that no matter who's getting hurt.

I know you can run it in your browser, and I'm pretty sure there's a standalone application for OSX. Just gotta pay to activate an account and you can pretty much play it anywhere with internet access!
