Настал летний день, когда тоскливые думы
дерев высоких претворялись в неверный
трепет, витавший в тихом воздухе,
далекий и слабый; пляской испещренные
серебряных отблесков и прорезанного тенью
солнечного света простерлись прогалины,
где изменчивые ветры мягко веяли,
теплые, сквозь переплетенье ветвей леса.
И Морвэн стояла, муку сокрыв,
у ворот своего двора меж дерев Хитлума;
у груди держа дочь, что кормила,
еле слышно напевая в ее беспечные ушки
сладостную песню с мелодией печальной,
дабы духом не пасть. Двери отворились,
под кладью тяжелою влекся Халог,
а Майльрод ветхий к Морвэн вывел
ее милого сына, мрачного и бесслезого,
с тяжестью на сердце, твердом, как камень,
хоть ведать оно не ведало о невзгодах грядущих.
И рек он храбро, собравшись силами:
«В чертогах властителя не останусь надолго,
не став еще мужем, доставлю я Морвэн
груды сокровищ и другов верных».
Не знал он ни о бездолье, что назначил Моргот,
ни о скорбной разлуке, что встала меж ними,
когда уста дрожащие произносили прощанье.
Поцелуи последние, разлуки слова
иссякли, миновались, и опустела долина
в сумраке лесов, скрылся дом
за ветвей плетеньем. И у Турина пробудилось
к скорби осознанью сердце смятенное,
и зарыдал он отчаянно, пробуждая эхо,
горестное и гулкое, в угрюмых лощинах:
«Не в силах, не в силах я оставить тебя, — так взывал он, —
О матушка Морвэн, зачем мыслишь отослать меня?
Горьки мне горы, где погибла надежда;
О матушка Морвэн, я умылся слезами,
ибо горы угрюмы и сгинул мой дом».
И донеслись его клики, слабо звучавшие,
по аллеям темным меж тоскливых дерев.
И заплаканная, истомленная, слышала она у порога,
как грянули горы: «Сгинул мой дом!»

"Proudest and most beautiful of mortal women in the days of old" indeed! She is the quintessential strong, tragic female character of Tolkien’s history of the Men and Elves of the First Age. I like her character, she was competent and inteligent, considered to be a trusted confidant and adviser by her husband.

Do you know the Cantata " Alexander Nevski " by Prokofiev ? A fantastic music .
I had to do it , i think 25 years ago . In Sicily .
There was a great choir , of course Sicilian and we had the prepare a concert for the
Christmas eve . I knew that will be not very easy , because of the language , and in this way
I had to find a solution . We were in summer time and I had a good idea ,
to put together the work necessity with the pleasure of a beautiful holiday ,
because in summer time in Sicily you have about 38-40°C .
We had to use a great villa on the seaside . In day time , we were free ,
in the evening , every day , we made rehearsal from 21p.m until 23,30 ...every night ,
When I was small boy ,in the school , I studied the Russian language ,- and I remember ,
even today- the russian alphabet . I had to teach them to pronounce every word in russian.
was fantastic and they had a great pleasure to do it . After the rehearsal , in the meddle
of the night we went to the ice cream party , always .
Of course in the autumn the rehearsals were in normal way .
In December was a fantastic concerto . Was unbelievable that a sicilian choir
made this Prokofiev's Cantata in russian language . This is important for the real atmosphere
of specific russian music and creativity .
I knew , that yours great Feodor Schaliapin , the bass singer , when he had to do
the "Boris Godunov " opera in London , in the beginning of last century , he obliged
the english singers and choir to make all in russian language .
This your drawing recorded me about some costumes for the Stravinski's ballets ,
The Fire Bird , Petrouska , in the time of Djiaghilev's ballet company , in the beginning
of last century in Paris .
I believe that your costumes would be wonderful for this kind of music .

This is Exactly what Tolkien described her as, tall and beautiful, stern, but also stubborn and cold, almost looks alittle anemic, like a lot of people in old time portraits, when nutrition wasnt as good. very mortal, and notably different form your elves. magnificent work!

This is a great portrayal of Morwen. Sometimes people make her a little too beautiful or "elvish", but I think here you've managed to catch not only her beauty but also her mortality. She looks like a Secondborn. Very nice!
