Description What do you think is the story here?

Personally I started to think of a story of a lady who had been buried on the spot where there is a gravestone. Perhaps due to some heavy sins committed in life she could not move on; instead from her remains she was reborn as a tree, stuck in life, and being home to new life (the two birds). She may be watching longingly after the other bird that is able to fly away. But there could be as many stories as there are viewers!

The image was first painted digitally in grayscale to establish the composition of light and shadow. Colors were later painted on a separate layer. In the end the grayscale and color layers were merged together before final minor changes. This was made for a graphics contest (reached the 3rd place) and I ran out of time to make the work extremely polished, but wanted to create an eye-catching and memorable composition.

I agree with MadAlleyCat, it reminds me of the Hanging Tree song.

Muistampas itsekkin tämän assemblyiltä, aivan pirun upeaa jälkeä. Värit toimii todella hyvin mutta ehkä itse jäin kaipaamaan hyppysellisen lisää kontrastia. Liekkö sitten isolta screeniltä näytti vähän liian kirkkaalta. Suosikkeihin menee

I imagine it seems to show the circle of life. From death life grows, and thus the tree grows to play host to more life.

This makes me think of a Goddess of Nature who has fallen asleep as she is very tired to keep everything together. I really love this. Color balance is awesome, atmosphere, absolutely everything is awesome about this♥

Have you ever heard "Hanging Tree" from Blackmore's Night? It reminds me a little of that.
Apart from that it's a very nice picture. You're improving and I can see your getting it more crisp which is cool. Looking forwards to see more of your art!

And no, I haven't heard of the "Hanging Tree", I had to Google it out to discover what it is about.

She might have been cursed by an evil witch who was jealous of her love with a young man, so the woman was turned into a tree. The young man stayed by her side until his death, and he was buried near her so they could alwasy be together. That's my version of what happened! Great picture! It is eye-catching and memorable. I find it sad, but beautiful
