Alright, the first of many photos to come. My family and Ben took a trip to Northern Minnesota i.e. Split Rock Lighthouse, Gooseberry State Falls and Duluth Harbor.This is Split Rock Lighthouse, and in its day, it was supposed to shine out 22 miles from it's point on the rocky cliff out to Lake Superior.
But in actuality, it was seen from 30+ miles away. Cool stuff.

Your overall vision is excellent. You really have a natural eye for these sorts of things. As far as originality... I have seen a fair few of rocky outcrops by the water, but it's so hard to be original when photographing landscapes. Here are a few things that really make this piece work
Color Scheme: You have a very nice color scheme here. There are analogous colors (consecutive colors on the color wheel : ex. yellow green blue) That in itself makes the piece very appealing to those who favor color in a picture.
Contrast: There are a couple ways that you have contrast in here. There is a great contrast in texture with the rocky cliff and the soft clouds. There is contrast in tone with the dark water and cliff to the light sky.
Composition: These is a very well balanced piece. I know you know about the rule of thirds, and the light house is in the perfect spot. You have lots of leading lines. The horizon line is very good as well.

When I went to Split Rock it was Easter Break and it was so cold. Fog everywhere and the water that would splash up on the rocks would actually freeze. It made for some beautiful photos (none of which are on my acct because the trip was prior to my days with a digital camera), but it was really miserably cold!
