The Whole train, modeled in HO scale.

Clockwise, from the left hand upper corner:

the underside of the Horse/laboratory car. We see the rotating cannon from episode 9, and the brass chain and winch for the grappling hook it shoots. The big brass "Ship's wheel" is to rotate the cannon by hand from outside the car,you can grasp the spokes from the side. Also underneath is the massive industrial air compressor to power most of Artie's experiments as well as the pneumatic sliding panels and other devices.

The Wanderer herself. I've featured this locomotive separate in another deviation. The Model is a Mantua (Tyco) 4-4-0.

The Rear platform of the Observation. It's kinda a cross between the movie and the TV version, with the large drum head from the TV show, but with the Brass "W" from the movie. Also note the spring loaded hook that shoots out from underneath the coupling. Episode something....it was the one with the Elephant.

Finally, a look underneath the Observation car. We see Artie's "Vehicular Rail Aggressor" thing stored under the car. As well as a few of the tanks and the winch to lower/raise the Aggressor.

If you had an AHM reno, would you make the original TV version too?

I don't think I would. I'm trying really hard not to buy model trains I have no use for, and without an HO scale layout, another HO Wanderer would be right up there with "Cool, but Useless"

Ah, I see now. I'm considering building a tabletop layout so at least my engine Oswald won't have to sit around and look pretty most of the time.

I get my money from lawn mowing and other chores. I've got a whole collection of over 40 locomotives (10 are diesels, the rest are steam).

I love this model, as a whole. It's just FREAKING awesome! not to mention some EXCELLENT modeling work! now all you need is some legless dude in a wheel chair on the back platform with a steampunk loudspeaker!

I did think about doing Just THAT...but the platform was just really tiny.

What can I say, man, she's just a wonderful beauty on rails.
's like an old wise man once said: "Steam trains are made for pictures".
