Description We have had a Starling building a nest in an accidentally open ventilation hole right outside our front door for about 2 weeks. This has resulted in lots of very early morning chirping and piles of insulation, bird poop and twigs on our doorstep. So, before Starling ensconced chickies in the hole and we had to wait a couple of months till they were all fledged, we had maintenance come and block off the hole.

Starling Was Not Amused. He sits up here on the peak of the roof singing about the glory of the nest he has prepared! The BEST NEST IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD, TYVM, and would some lovely female come and cohabitate with him? He's still singing, only he can't get into his nest. I hope he moves on and builds a new one before the season is over and he misses out on passing on his genetic heritage! Here he is singing out his praises of his nest building prowess, and simultaneously giving me the evil eye, cause he can't get in!

FA100-300 4.7 lens of awesome

rofl*snort* No, see, that's the beauty of this lens! It's a total sleeper lens - everyone discounts it because it's plastic-y feeling and very light weight (and silver, which was very out of fashion in Pentaxland until recently).....but it's this gorgeous lens with great sharpness & color & really good contrast for about $100.00

Check out this lens review by people at the Pentax Forums (my review is on there too). People there don't pull punches when it comes to lens quality - but they just can't find much bad to say about the FA100-300 4.7-5.8

There is also an FA100-300 4.5-5.6 that people pretty universally agree is totally mediocre. Don't know how Pentax slipped up and made the 4.7 version so kick ass, but I love this lens

Wow...I may have to check it out if it holds its own against the DA 55-300...I'd much rather pay $100 over $300

I picked up a Canon 1D and a Sigma 70-300 today..about to go shoot some birds with it (if they don't hide from me) and I will most likely post them up here if I get anything good.

From everything I've seen....I'd rather have my FA1-300 4.7 than the DA55-300. Between the two I'd say all the technical characteristics are very similar, but the FA has something the DA doesn't. The FA has a lot of character. Hmm. I'll have to look at photos from them both again and see if I can put it into words, but I do see it, yk?

And for the money, you're getting WAY more bang for your buck with the FA. The DA55-300 is costing a lot of money these days, even with all the DA L versions flooding the market because of kit sales with the K-x (the DA L version is optically the same and would cost you less if you decide to go that route - no clutch, plastic mount, no included hood basically).

I look forward to seeing your birdies!! Post them
