A buddy and I a while back where RPing this AU called the omega verse. Simply put, it’s a world where everyone is put into three different groups based on a secondary gender. And I thought, “gee, that would be a pretty cool for an alien race.” So this is my take in a more sci-fi setting for this concept.
This race is born with two genders. The first gender being male or female, and the second gender being alpha, beta, or omega. Oddly enough, the male and female gender doesn’t determine whether or not an individual can impregnate or be impregnated. The secondary gender determines this. Pheromones also play a large part in their society when it comes to mating and overall attractiveness. Scent can even affect the mood of any common daily situation.
Alphas
The Alphas are the more aggressive and physically strong out of the three. Male and female alphas have a very similar hormone levels that give them natural muscularity and similar behavior such as aggression as stereotypically noted. They are also known for being more territorial and dominate compared to the other two. In simple terms, the alpha male is the top definition of male, being only capable of impregnating female betas and both sexes of omega. Females, on the other hand, are capable of only impregnating as well. Still having some tall tale signs of being female such as small breast and wider hips then the alpha male, she’s actually a hermaphrodite, possessing both male and female reproductive organs that are all internal. Alpha female can impregnate the same group that an alpha male can. She’s incapable of properly bearing a child, and successful impregnation is very difficult. In very rare cases when an alpha female has managed to be impregnated, a c-section usually needs to take place to birth the child safely. Alphas react strongly to the pheromones of sexually aroused omegas, and they tend to mate with each other most. Full arousal for an alpha is known as a rut. Ruts can come out of the blue but are usually elicited by the scent of an omega close to a heat or in heat. Ruts make the alphas hyper aggressive and can last about a week where most of the time they want to fight any other alpha.
Omegas
Omegas are the smallest and ‘softest’ of the three. They are the only ones who can get pregnant besides beta females, and they can impregnate no one. Hormone levels in omegas dictate smaller stature with more natural fat on the body. The female omegas are the ideal image of a healthy woman for caring children. So are the males. Again, like the alpha females, they are hermaphrodites, having both sexual organs. Males are physically incapable of impregnating any of the other genders even though they possess the sexual organs to do so. Evolution as negated the male organs nearly null void. Physically, there is little difference between male and female omegas besides for females having prominent breast. Males tend to develop small breast during pregnancy, that will go away after the child is done breastfeeding. Omegas react strongly to the scent of a sexually aroused alpha, and they tend to mate with each other the most. Full arousal of an omega is called a heat. They come once a month when they are fertile.
Betas
Realistically, the beta shouldn’t exist. Betas are the most similar to humans, being capable of only have one gender, male or female. Biologically, they shouldn’t exist because the omegas and alphas cover all reproduction bases and seem to be wired only to reproduce with each other, making betas an obsolete gender. Betas are genetic hiccups. The are the equivalent of a child being born genderless in our society. The only reason why the even have a classification is that there are just too common not too. They are the least common out of the three. They aren’t affected by sexual pheromones nor do they produce any in such high concentrations like alphas and omegas. They actually are quite disconcerting to the other two due to a total lack of personal scent. They don’t get debilitating heats or raging sex drives. Since they have a severe lack of hormones, this gives them very low sex drives and making them far less emotional than the other two to almost a sociopathic level. Omegas are the most emotional, alphas are too just in a more aggressive way, betas are the most controlled by nature. Also due to a lack of sexual hormones, this effects their physicality. They tend to grow taller than alphas but having no hormonal levels to dictate alpha or omega; they don’t develop much muscularity or body fat. Instead, they are quite lean and thin
